PBR Future Games Player Spotlight: LHP Erik Ritchie

Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

2019 marks the 8th year that Pennsylvania will be represented in the PBR Future Games. This one-of-a-kind event will feature the best uncommitted Class of 2021 & select 2022 prospects from our 40-plus state coverage area. The Future Games will take place July 31st - August 4th (Wednesday-Saturday) at the LakePoint Sporting Community in Cartersville, GA.

The Prep Baseball Report Future Games is the premier summer scouting event for Class of 2021/2022 prospects. Last year, more than 250 college coaches from all over the country were in attendance, making it arguably the most heavily recruited event of the summer.

We will be highlighting each player on the Team Pennsylvania roster in the week leading up to the event. Links to those players that have already been highlighted follows at the end of this article.

Scouting Report

+ 2019 PBR Future Games Selection (Team Pennsylvania)

2/23/19

6-foot, 190-pound left-handed pitcher showcased an obvious standout bullpen. Ritchie utilized an easy delivery and a loose, whippy arm to deliver 84-86 mph fastballs with some natural cut from a high 3/4 arm-slot. Used noticeably good tunneling, as all of his pitches came out of the same release window with similar arm-speeds. Commanded sharp 73-75 mph curveballs that featured 1/7 tilt. His 77-79 mph changeups were thrown with impressive sell and showed late drop making it a tough pitch to pick up at the plate.

10/27/18

6-foot, 185-pound lefty impressed at a previous PBR event in September. His fastball was down a few ticks on this date sitting 79-82 out of a 3/4 arm slot. Easy, repeatable delivery stays directional while his fastball shows some cut. Ritchie's curveball at 67-70 has tight slider shape with a chance to be an above average pitch. He also commanded his changeup at fastball arm speed with regularity at 71-73.

9/23/18

First look at this 6-foot, 185-pound lefty was a good one. Athletic, well proportioned frame with time for additional strength. Sat 83-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot with an easy, repeatable delivery that stays directional. Fastball has natural cut and curveball with 1/7 shape at 70-72 has a chance to be an out pitch at the next level. Changeup is a bit stiff at 74-78 but is commanded well with little current movement. Definite spring/summer follow in this class.
