PBR Draft 100 Spotlight: Steven Jennings

By Nathan Rode
National Supervisor

RHP Steven Jennings (DeKalb County HS, TN) has an athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. He tore his right ACL playing football in the fall, but recovered quickly and has been dominant on the mound this spring. He works at his own pace and maintains rhythm in his delivery, which is natural, repeatable and athletic. His arm is quick through a high-3/4 slot. He sits 90-93 mph with his fastball with some sink and keeps it down in the zone. His slider is a go-to pitch for him that ranges from 77-84. A Mississippi recruit, he doesn’t need his changeup at the high school level, but shows it in warm-ups and throws it with confidence.

Scouting Report

Athletic frame at 6'2, 175 and has recovered from a torn ACL in only a matter of months to show some dominance on the mound this spring.  He works at his own pace and does a great job of maintaining a rhythm without working too quickly.  Jennings refrains from getting too mechanical by using his athleticism on the mound and using what seems to be a natural and repeatable delivery.  He loads into his back leg before descending upon the plate with a slightly closed stride.
