The 2017 high school season yielded many stellar individual performances across all corners of Oklahoma, but one player stood above the rest:

Jake Taylor.

Taylor, a senior outfielder from Shawnee HS, delivered a statistically dominant season while helping lead his team to a third straight state championship, an undefeated season, and a No. 1 ranking in numerous national polls.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Taylor hit .519 in 131 at-bats with 22 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 68 RBI's. Taylor also scored 50 runs, drew 30 free bases and only punched out four times. On the mound, the right-hander was 5-0 with a 2.76 ERA through 38 innings, striking out 47, walking 12 and allowing 30 hits. Taylor is committed to Oklahoma State and was drafted in the 25th round by the Atlanta Braves.

Taylor’s all-around performance has earned him the 2017 Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma Player of the Year honors.

Taylor edged out a highly competitive field of candidates, selected by Oklahoma Scouting Director Andy Urban, who covered the season throughout the spring. Player of the Year nominations are provided by high school coaches across the state. Player of the Year criteria includes, but not limited to, on-field production and positive character qualities that represent the state.
