Ohio Spotlight Game: #39 Amherst Steel vs Lakewood
The #39 Amherst Steele Comets (16-7) faced off against the Lakewood Rangers (7-10). It was senior night at Amherst High School, so it was only fitting that a senior lead Amherst in a big way.
Senior right-handed pitcher Nick DeJesus (Lake Erie College Commit) threw a no-hit, shutout to lead the Comets past Lakewood for a final score of 4-0.
Amherst first struck in the third inning when speedy senior second baseman Michael Burgess led off with an infield single and proceeded to steal second base. With two outs, senior left fielder Isaac Walts delivered an RBI double over the left fielder’s head making it a 1-0 game.
Amherst would then add a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning.
For Lakewood, it was just one of those games. The Lakewood offense would watch every ball they hit being played by an Amherst defender, eventually being called for an out.
DeJesus would threw seven innings, walked two, hit a batter, struck out eight, and of course not allowing a hit or a run throughout the twenty two batters he faced.
Lakewood would get a solid pitching performance from their starter as well.
Senior right-handed pitcher Ben Bulchik (Walsh Commit) also threw a complete game for Lakewood. He threw six innings, yielded seven hits, walked one, struck out five, and allowed four runs.
