OK Top Senior Games Leader Board Fastball Metrics: (Trackman Pitchers)

Scott Hood
OK/MO/KS Assistant Director

Today we're taking an in-depth look at some of the top fastball metrics at the Oklahoma Top Senior Games showcase from data collected from the Trackman.  As technology continues to improve, we are learning more and more about what makes each pitch unique and effective to each individual pitcher.

This event featured 5 guys with the peak velocity over 85 mph with Blake Seefeldt leading the way at 88.9 mph and Caden Hinther just behind at 88.2 mph.  Jackson Hodge had the top velocity for all left-handers at the event with a registered 85.73 mph.  Micah Simmons had the top average spin rate on the fastball with an average of 2199 RPM with Jackson Hodge right behind him at 2119 RPM.  Ethan Rone had the largest average horizontal break on the fastball at an average of 13.6 inches of east/west action. The top average induced vertical break from the event belonged to Will Kates at an average of 17.1 inches meaning the fastball has a lot of riding life to it, especially when at the top of the zone.  Bauer units is a basic formula of spin rates (rpm) / velocity (mph), and our top performers were Micah Simmons, Christopher Wall, and Cade Erickson with each at 27 Bauer Units.  Major league average for Bauer Units on the fastball is generally around 24 units.
