New Episode LIVE now! - At The Yard Podcast

LATHROP, CA. - Players were put through a pro-style workout that included the 60-yard sprint, a round of batting practice, defensive workouts at respective positions, and concluded with competitive at-bat sessions for pitchers/hitters.

Most of the players were attending their first ever PBR California event, giving us a first look at these players in a showcase setting. Some we had seen in previous events or travel ball games last fall.

(Note: All showcase videos have been added to the player profiles.)

PITCHERS:

SCOUTING REPORT

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 6-foot-1, 155-pounds. Long lean body type, some hints of future muscularity are showing
Delivery: RHP - Stretch only; shallow knee lift, good body control over the rubber, strides considerably open to allow whippy arm to come through, maintains stability through release and in fielding position.
Arm Action: Easy circle on backside that gets to depth just above his hips, whippy quick arm, release from low-3/4 (near sidearm) slot, pitching hand finishes w/near slapping of his back
FB: 75-79, T80 mph - Avg 1727 RPM, T1899 - Considerable arm side run and occasional life, certainly uncomfortable for RHHs when he was focusing on the arm side, has a chance to develop a pretty nasty FB w/hard bat-breaking run (vs RHH)
CB: 62 mph - 1900 RPM - Only threw one, clearly working on feel and confidence in this pitch

SCOUTING REPORT

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 6-foot-5, 175-pounds. Long/lanky though w/nice proportionality and hints of lower body muscularity, ample room to fill out his rangy frame
Delivery: RHP - Mixed overhead arm swing and more simple rocker step while keeping hands off chest, also showed competent slide step mechanics, occasionally a quick knee lift/tuck, on-line stride, fluid actions during delivery, considering youth and his height the body control is good, finishes by allowing some head dip that could indicate the slot could be more natural a bit lower
Arm Action: Short backside, keeps arm swing on SS side of body, release from overhand slot
FB: 69-72, T73 mph - Avg 1675 RPM, T1759 - Mostly straight w/ability to throw strikes, feel of zone now is a good sign for him as he gets stronger and develops more raw stuff
CB: 57-59 mph - 1652-1904 RPM - Big shape, 11/6 shape, threw it w/feel, though quite smooth and more rolling at this point it's got a chance to be bigger w/continuing depth through the zone
CHG: 60-64 mph - Avg 1327 RPM - Showed feel and nice extension, resulting in late fade as the pitch was approaching the zone, can get soft contact w/this pitch and allow FB to play up as well

SCOUTING REPORT

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 5-foot-5, 145-pounds. Compactly built w/proportionate physical attributes & some strength
Delivery: RHP - Simple delivery, calm knee lift gets to waist height, slight pinch of front knee before starting on line down the slope, stable foot strike provides stability for strong backside to come through, finishes in good fielding position, delivery consistent w/both FB & CB
Arm Action: Short back side w/separation taking place all on SS side of body, has some arm quickness/strength, release from high-3/4 release
FB: 71-74, T74 mph - Avg 1697 RPM, T1815 - Fairly average life on the FB though did well to utilize both sides of the plate and start bats, seemed comfortable attacking inside vs RHH
CB: 62-64 mph - 1607-1694 RPM - Started it in zone well w/wide break as it approached the plate, got some awkward swings out of hitters, two-plane break

SCOUTING REPORT

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 5-foot-8, 140-pounds. Trim & lean, athletic build, young body w/room to add strength
Delivery: RHP - Athletic delivery, comfortable on the mound, relaxed hands set off his chest, creates and maintains rhythm and hand/feet coordination throughout delivery, high easy knee lift, stride is on line, some slight heel land at slight open foot strike, finishes in good fielding position.
Arm Action: Short backside arm action, minimal arm swing, calm out of glove, gets to high-3/4 release, quick-ish arm speed that should incrementally increase as he gains physicality
FB: 64-69, T70 mph - Avg 1797 RPM, T1908 - Strike throwing ability, some arm side run, quicker than the velocity which is due to quality extension and true rotation creating spin, just enough movement on arm side to get just off the barrel
CB: 58-61 mph - 1733-1857 RPM - Showed feel of 11/5 type breaker, kept down, hints of spin that can develop more bite as he ages

SCOUTING REPORT

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. Long legs, broad body type w/some present strength, frame composition to hold future strength
Delivery: LHP - All from stretch, stable over the rubber while lifting knee above waist, calm out of glove as starts arm action, on line stride with stable foot strike slightly closed and providing ability to create leverage, backside comes through well, somewhat tall and fall, there is some hidden power in there with some slight adjustments over the rubber
Arm Action: Clean shallow circle on backside, keeps ball hidden well behind body, consistent release point from overhand slot
FB: 69-72, T73 mph - Avg 1705 RPM, T1848 - Slight late slippery movement late in zone on arm side, confident going inside to RHH, can create sink, went in well vs LHH as well
CTR: 64-66 mph - 1406-1498 RPM - Best when used vs LHH, has more depth than traditional CTR similar to a slider, likes to use it, did a nice job keeping it down in the zone
CHG: 67 mph - 1268 RPM - Mixed in only one, left up, looks to be a pitch he's working on getting comfortable with

SCOUTING REPORT

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 6-foot-2, 260-pounds. Larger body type, short levers, wide shoulders, stout through hips
Delivery: RHP - Small simple rocker step, knee lift gets just to the waist, strides on line, can work to develop more stability with lower half after foot strike to develop consistency in the release point
Arm Action: Long on the backside with some depth as he reaches back toward 2nd baseman position, flexible elbow flexion to make the move forward w/arm, considerable pronation at release from high-3/4 slot
FB: 62-67, T68 mph - Avg 1770 RPM, T2032 - Getting over 2000 RPM on a couple of FBs shows his ability to impart spin, did struggle locate, when release point was controlled he was able to get some sink at the plate and illicit soft contact
