New Episode LIVE now! - At The Yard Podcast

LATHROP, CA. - Players were put through a pro-style workout that included the 60-yard sprint, a round of batting practice, defensive workouts at respective positions, and concluded with competitive at-bat sessions for pitchers/hitters.

Most of the players were attending their first ever PBR California event, giving us a first look at these players in a showcase setting. Some we had seen in previous events or travel ball games last fall.

(Note: Players are listed in alphabetical order. All showcase videos have been added to the player profiles)

OUTFIELDERS:

Scouting Report

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 6-foot-2, 155-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Tall balanced set-up w/slightly pinched knees, slightly lower hand slot just off right chest, compact stroke for a tall young man, lively body and lively swing projects very favorably as he develops, short stroke to the ball, clean lower body mechanics w/good hips, could work to stay in the zone a little longer through contact, but all in all, lots of talent here and positive projection here to develop power and a swing that has good bat control. Showed 1st pitch aggressiveness and both game ABs resulted in pull side contact (6-3, F7).
Power: 83 mph EV off tee
Arm: OF velo - 73 mph (R) - Solid exit of ball from hand, cleaning up the approach to the ball with his feet and getting rid of it a little quick will be areas of improvement.
Defense: Trusting his athleticism on approach to the balls to field was better on his last two throws home after he started to get feel for how ball was being hit to him. Projects as a corner (LF) down the road w/footspeed and arm strength that fit best there.
Run: 7.49 60-yard

Scouting Report

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 6-foot-0, 170-pounds. Lean, athletic, wiry strength presently w/frame to fill
Hit: LHH. Lively stroke, there is pull side power right now and the ball jumps off hit bat. Primarily a pull oriented approach, hammered a ball by the 2nd baseman in game action, quick trigger with a loose easy and yet also good violence in the stroke. Understands how to stay behind the barrel and let it live through contact. Developing the ability to use the whole field is an area to focus on for him, but the talent to hit and do with power is absolutely present.
Power: 93 mph EV off tee
Arm: OF velo 81 mph (R) - Athletic approach and nice carry on throws to 3B and home. Possesses release and arm talent to stick on a corner in the OF.
Defense: As an OF the release was good, solid carry that can improve, confident and athletic approach to the ball, projects as a left-fielder with enough arm and athleticism to limit extra bases.
Run: 7.69 60-yard

Scouting Report

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 5-foot-5, 145-pounds. Compactly built w/proportionate physical attributes & some strength
Hit: RHH. Fairly upright set-up w/more weight on backside & slight toe touch with front foot, reverse toe tap before getting to stride, slight hands hitch during the load, aggressive hips and separation of hands through contact, bat speed is there and mechanics suggest a bit of surprising pop can develop (though an approach thinking about power may not benefit him) depending on how his body physically develops. Competitive ABs resulted in F7 and a 1-3 putout that was struck well.
Power: 76 mph EV off tee
Arm: OF velo - 76 mph (R) - Quick arm, ball tracked well to the targets, clean throwing mechanics and trained approach to the ball allow the arm to play well, couple more ticks in in there
Defense: Sees ball well off the bat, footwork looks to be well-schooled and the release was consistent for each throw, range won't be a plus but given the arm strength and footspeed he projects as a LF going forward and has throwing tools be a threat to greedy runners.
Run: 7.50 60-yard

Scouting Report

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 6-foot-1, 170-pounds. Long/athletic body, lean strength w/ample room in frame for further size/strength gains
Hit: RHH. Upright stance w/slightly open front foot, hands held high w/some rhythmic waggling, quiet stride, good base below him, medium knee lift back to on-line foot strike, keeps hands back though there is some barring of the lead arm which leads to an armsy type swing, middle/oppo approach, there can be power developed w/improvement of staying connected better
Power: 80 mph EV off tee
Arm: OF velo - 84 mph (R) - Clean longer circular arm action, ball comes out hand easily, chance to develop plus OF arm, arm will translate well to mound
Defense: Well-schooled clean footwork to the ball, gets rid of it in rhythm, gathers power w/torque in upper body as feet set him up to throw, accurate arm and with his good footwork he projects to a corner OF spot with a chance to impact an opposing team's baserunning w/his arm
Run: 7.89 60-yard

Scouting Report

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 5-foot-11, 160-pounds. Lean/athletic build w/some present strength & well-proportioned
Hit: LHH. Wise and balanced set-up starts w/feet slightly closed and remains so with his stride, reverse slight toe tap move gets weight smoothly to his backside, hands work cleanly and direct to the ball w/oppo spray/slashing type swing, maintains good body control through the swing, power projects nicely as he gains size and strength. Athletic swing that should age well as he develops.
Power: 81 mph EV off tee
Arm: OF velo - 77 mph (R) - Confident w/his arm, balls leaves hand well and some carry that comes from good finish of the throw utilizing his hips and finish of the shoulder
Defense: Well-trained technique and footwork, sees ball well, fields off his left leg and gets to an excellent throwing position which allows for quality release and accuracy. The raw footspeed will have to improve to project off a corner OF spot, but given the overall skill he showed in approaching the ball and getting rid of it he projects as an above average defensive OF
Run: 7.66 60-yard

Scouting Report

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 5-foot-8, 150-pounds. Strong/compact body, some explosiveness in a smaller package, well-proportioned & looks to have put some time into his body
Hit: RHH. Excellent rhythm at the plate w/palpable confidence, upright stance w/slight knee crouch and slightly open lead foot, sizable knee lift during load as he coils/creates upper body torque, aggressive stride but stays in control of lower body and stays behind the ball, quick bat that happens easily, consistent contact point off the front of the plate, able to create more power than size suggests, should develop into an extra base hit-getter from gap to gap.
Power: 90 mph EV off tee
Arm: OF velo - 83 mph (R) - Ball comes out his hand very nicely w/carry and accuracy, gets power from lower body & lead foot stability for leverage as his backside comes through, definitely a chance to develop an above average/potentially plus arm
Defense: Moves with agility and good body control, approaches ball on the ground well and fields in good position, there is was often an extra step or two during the release which allows him to get a little extra on the throws but also slows down the release time. With some footspeed gains he's got a shot to play in CF though likely projects to man one of the corners beyond HS.
Run: 7.48 60-yard

Scouting Report

PBR NORTHERN CA UNDERCLASS GAMES

Body: 5-foot-10, 145-pounds. Lean/lithe body, graceful proportions, positive physical projectability
Hit: RHH. Balanced set-up, slight knee crouch with hands held off his right shoulder, minimal stride, small circular hand action as stride happens, swing looks to be tailed to a contact oriented approach, short to the ball, does have some good hip rotation and explosion, as he gets stronger there are mechanics to develop some gap pop and ability to make consistently hard contact. Can work to keep the eyes/head a bit more steady.
Power: 75 mph EV off tee
Arm: OF velo - 79 mph (R) - Quick arm and there is more velo coming as he gets more physical, quick arm stroke and there is some developing carry
Defense: Excellent set-up/approach to both ground balls and balls in the air, graceful confident actions, sees ball off the bat well, angles are good, there are occasionally some extra steps as he attempted to unleash best velo type throws so getting to that best velo more efficiently is an area of improvement for him, as well as working to increase his footspeed.
Run: 7.69 60-yard
