New England Insider: Updated Class of 2018 Player Rankings (August)
With the spring season and summer showcases coming to a close, Prep Baseball Report New England takes a look at the 2018 rankings. Many new prospects come into the rankings while many prospects have made jumps, some drastically. Below we will take a look at “What’s New At The Top”, “Rising Prospects”, and some of the top uncommitted prospects.
Covering six states, New England is a prime area for legit baseball talent and now we would like to bring to you the updated 2018 Player Rankings.
What's New
Announcing the updated PBR New England 2018 updated rankings is always quite a task. There are really a great amount of talented players in the 2018 class of New England. Ryan Cusick, Mike Vasil, Shane Smith and Steven Hajjar are all high profile arms headed into their respective senior year. All pitch in the 90 mph range with nasty secondary stuff. Whether they land at college or in the professional ranks, its will certainly be fun to follow over the next calendar year. Positionally, Grant Lavigne, Bryce Reagan, Patrick Winkel and Dillon Lifrieri headline the best positional players in New England. The scouts will be out in droves following all these guys as they finish out their high school careers.
THE RISERS
Mike Vasil has jumped into the 2nd spot in our rankings and some may argue he is the best arm in New England. Showing well on the summer circuit, touching 95 mph recently.
Steven Hajjar jumps in the rankings, as he has made a significant velocity jump. Went to the Future Games with us last year, pitching in the low to mid-80s. Currently flashing 91-93 mph, tremendous prospect. Theo McDowell of Salisbury school has finally made the jump on the mound, tremendous upside as he showed at the Futures last summer. Recently committed to West Virginia, and flashing 90 mph with the makings of a plus slider from a ¾ angle.
Dominic Keegan, right-handed hitting catcher now going to Vandy, will see plenty of pro attention this coming spring
THE NEWCOMERS
Bryan Gotti, left-handed banger from Belmont HIll is a quality bat we added into the rankings.
Matt Draper, long and lanky right-hander out of Lowell has a ton of upside. I like him to see a huge jump this coming year.
Brody Fillion, left-handed hitting catcher, who probably will end up at first, has a big left-handed stroke.
Timmy MacDonald, another big left-handed hitter with good potential.
