National Program Invitational: Scout Blog, Day Three
June 12, 2022
Our staff is on the ground at LakePoint for the 2022 National Program Invitational, featuring many of the top prospects spanning prep classes 2023 through 2025. A loaded third day of action in Emerson made for this jam-packed notebook with notes and highlights from NPI, Day Three.
Class of 2023
Carl Schmidt, SS, Marin Catholic HS, CA
A Texas A&M recruit, Schmidt stood out for his barrel accuracy at the NorCal and NPI ProCases and that has translated to game play. He’s a pure hitter, starting with a tall and slightly open stance before striding toward the pitcher and employing a simple, smooth stroke that produces hard line-drive contact. He went 3-for-6 the first two days, and added a 2-for-3 day Saturday. In his first trip, he squared up a ground ball through the left side that had enough behind it to shoot the left-center gap and get to the wall. He later smoked one over the center fielder’s head for a double, getting cut down trying to stretch it to a triple.
2023 SS Carl Schmidt is a tough out. Grounds this one through the left side here, but hard enough to shoot the gap for a two-run triple. Squared one over CF's head later for a double, thrown out trying to stretch it.@PBR_California | @prepbaseball | @ShooterHunt | #NPI2022 pic.twitter.com/FisEXtbtX9

Aidan Miller, SS/3B, JW Mitchell HS, FL
As the No. 3 player in the country, Miller doesn’t see much on the inner half, but that hasn’t had any ill effect on his production. While he can unleash monstrous hacks that would intimidate any opposing arm, he is also perfectly comfortable going with pitches away. More than once this week, he has driven something hard the other way, including a booming double to deep right-center field on Saturday. He projects as a third baseman with his build, but he was playing shortstop today and showed good athleticism and mobility that would hint at his chances to be an asset.
3B Aidan Miller is wearing out the right side of the field this week. Once again, he goes with a pitch away and drives it. Calm and always under control in the box. @PBRFlorida | @prepbaseball | @ShooterHunt | #NPI2022 pic.twitter.com/o3ZqvzOT58
