NC Prospect ID Statistical Analysis

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

PBR opened its summer evaluations with an open prospect event at the beautiful Ultimate Performance complex in Matthews, NC on Thursday May 23rd.  Close to 40 players took part in the open pro-style workout with PBR scouts on hand to evaluate players and record their stats while going through the workout.

The event featured players as part of the open North Carolina Prospect ID and the PBR Scout Day with Ultimate Performance.  Today we break down the statistics gathered from the event, looking at the top performers in each category.  To see the full list of statistics gathered during the workout, for every player in attendance, CLICK HERE (NC Prospect ID) and HERE (Ultimate Performance Scout Day).

NC Prospect ID / PBR Scout Day - Statistical Analysis

Top Max FB

Fifteen arms threw controlled bullpens for the PBR staff.  Each player was able to work through their normal sequencing while showcasing their command and stuff.  Below are the top fastballs from the event.

Top Exit Velocity

Offensive players worked through several stations before taking live BP in an open tunnel that allowed scouts to see the ball fly.  At the exit velocity station, players worked off a tee, with a radar gun reading the exit speed of the ball off the bat.  The top exit velocities are below.

Top Positional Velocity - Infielders

The size and space of the Ultimate Performance facility allows infielders to simulate a live ground ball and a throw across the field.  Batted balls traveled approximately 100 feet where the infielders were able to transition the baseball into a 100 foot throw, allowing scouts to see carry, accuracy, and arm strength.  Below are the top recorded arm strength numbers from the event.

Top Positional Velocity - Outfielders

Outfielders were able to take batted balls from a fungo, working through their catch and exchange to a 150 foot throw.  The distance of the throw allowed scouts to evaluate arm strength, carry, and accuracy.  Below are the top recorded radar readings from the outfielders positional work.

Top Catcher POP Times

Catchers were able to throw to a full distance 2B with infielders simulating a catch and tag.  The catchers pop time reading has scouts start their stop watch when the ball hits the catchers glove and stop the watch when the ball hits the middle infielders glove, over the 2B bag.  Below are the top catcher pop times from the event.

Top 30 Yard Dash Time

Players were able to run a full, laser timed 30 yard dash in the workout.  Listed as home-to-first in the statistical database, these players started from a base stealing start.   The top 30 yard dash times are below.
