Mountain State Spotlight: Wyatt Milum

Josh Kuykendall
West Virginia Director of Scouting

This fall, we will be taking a closer look at players from all over the Mountain State. Today we highlight 2021 LHP/1B Wyatt Milum from Spring Valley .

Scouting Report

6/15/17 Wyatt Milum, 2021, Wayne HS, Wyatt sets up in an extremely wide stance he initiates swing with short stride. There is some bat wrap and associated length to swing. There is tendency to lean back and create uphill plane.  Bat speed, 78 mph exit velocity, is substantial considering age and frame suggests there is more to come.

Defensively at 1B Milum showed good footwork and hands particularly for his class.  Arm strength is above averge for poition range is somewhat limited.

On the mound Wilum demonstrates a solid developing frame.  FB sat 77-79 and will undoubtedly see substantial jump with physical maturation and mechanical clean up.  On this day there was difficulty commanding secondary pitches.  However, potential existed with Milum flashing potential for solid change up and breaking ball based on movement and shape.  Mechanical issues include difficulty maintaining balance point with tendency open early.  Milum would benefit from a more solid balance point and getting over his front side more aggressively. Overall Milum's age, frame and arm strength make him an interesting follow in class of 2021.
