Scouting Report

8/23/21

At the PDP League, Green took a hanging breaking ball 430 feet to center field for a home run. Ritchie exacted some revenge, blowing 94 by Green in his first at-bat of the event, but the scales tipped back in his next trip when he launched a slider three-quarters of the way up the batter’s eye in center field. The lightning in Green’s hands is well documented and the ball screams off his bat when he connects, but the propensity to swing and miss remains. In 15 at-bats, just two resulted in outs in play. He struck out eight times and collected five hits. Much of his damage comes from the pull side to center field, but he also flashed some loud contact the other way, driving a base hit to the right of second base, as well as a triple in the right-center gap. His explosiveness translates on the bases where he turns in plus run times. On his triple, the ball was thrown into no-man’s land so he ended up scoring, circling the diamond in about 15 seconds with only a slight deceleration around third.

Already one of the top players in the 2022 class, Green, a Miami recruit, left the Area Code Underclass event as the prospect that every scout in attendance knew by name. He finished the weekend 4-for-10, blasting three home runs, and even the outs he made were loud. Demonstrating an ability to drive the ball to all fields, Green dominated elite pitching as his in-game production continues to warrant high praise. At 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, he has the most impressive frame of any prospect in the class, and while it is already advanced, a closer look still promises further development. His batting practice session was equally impressive as he had a professional approach, utilizing the whole field early before giving a glimpse of his plus-power with deep drives out of the park. Though his speed and athleticism are both plus tools, he profiles best as a corner outfielder, but considering the power production, it will not downgrade his elite prospect status. The loud exit velocities (97-plus regularly) and ability to get out of the box quickly shine well on his future upside, but his tracking capabilities continue to impress with each viewing. On a stage with the best underclassmen in the country, Green was clearly in a league of his own. Interesting to note: Anytime Green stepped to the plate, scouts turned around from the upper class game to watch his at-bat. Having seen multiple players reclassify the past few years, and with lots of uncertainty in the baseball world, even a small chance that Green would bump up to the 2021 class made it worth seeing him in action.

9/20/19

Physically advanced with defined, proportional strength throughout an athletic, 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame, the 6.6 runner may have a chance of sticking in center field at the next level. His raw power from the right side has shown up on the national stage, and he still shows signs of making big jumps in the future.

8/22/19

Miami recruit and by far the best player in attendance. Beyond physically advanced for his age at 6-foot-2 205 pounds. Quick twitch athlete with plus bat speed. Showed power to all fields and made loud, hard contact consistently. Very quick in the outfield and takes good routes to balls.

8/15/18

Head-and-shoulders beyond others in 2022 class physically. Athletic machine. Strong and twitchy. Still has a lot projection. Explosive hands and fast bat. Really does have some polish to go along with the raw physicality. Should be able to handle velocity as a 2022 allowing him to begin development immediately. Physical tool shed. Fast bat and has a good head start on developing his raw abilities. Exciting young talent.
