Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

At the #3 spot in our countdown of the most viewed profiles of the year is '21 Malakhi Knight (Marysville Getchell)

One of the premier talents in the country, Knight currently ranks 16th overall in our updated 2021 rankings and has long been the #1 player in the state of Washington for us. The dynamic outfielder not only has impressive tools and physicality but has also developed a track record of consistent performance in game at national level events. Despite being from a cold weather region, Knight has excelled against some of the best competition in the country. The recent UCLA commit will have a lot of attention from the scouting community regardless of what happens with high school baseball in 2021. If he continues on his current trajectory, he'll be in the mix as potential Day 1 pick for the draft.

SCOUTING REPORT

8/24/20
At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, he already sports a developed, athletic frame with a balanced combination of physical tools. In game, Knight has impressed with his strike-zone discipline and advanced approach. Keeps things simple in the box with a subtle, controlled load and short forward move. It's a neutral set up with very few moving parts or actions that need to sync up. Instead he utilizes impressive hand speed to work quick/direct to the ball. Exceptionally strong at the point of contact. Produces easy power in BP, especially up the middle. The power stroke has translated to the game at national level events over the past few years. Defensively his athleticism translates to the OF where he has shown quality actions and the ability to get into the gaps quickly. Arm strength will play from any OF spot.

9/10/19
The Most Outstanding Player from the Underclass Area Code Games, Knight put on a breakout performance that should firmly cement him as one of the premium talents nationally in the 2021 class. At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, he already sports a developed, athletic frame with a balanced combination of physical tools. In game, Knight has impressed with his strike-zone discipline and advanced approach. Keeps things simple in the box with a subtle, controlled load and short stride. Produces easy raw power in BP, especially to his pull-side.  Add in the fact that he has above average speed and has been up to 92 mph on the mound and it’s easy to see why pro scouts love what Knights brings to the table.
