PBR Wisconsin’s first event of 2019 was held over the weekend on Jan. 25 at Fielder’s Choice Training Academy, the Kenosha Preseason I.D., from Kenosha, Wis. Around 50 prospects made it to the showcase, from both Illinois and Wisconsin, and we’ll continue our event coverage today by sharing some statistical analysis from all of the measured data taken on Saturday.

In case you missed it, we published our rapid thoughts and analysis coming out of showcase on Saturday in our Quick Hits post. Click the hyperlink for more details.

Keep a look out in the next couple weeks when we’ll publish reports on each of the prospects who made it out to Kenosha. For now, here’s a look at a sortable board of all the event's recorded statistics: CLICK HERE.

TOP HOME-TO-FIRST

Tied atop this leaderboard is Wilmot junior Leo Falletti and Union Grove sophomore Remmi Sweet. Speed and athleticism are both stapled to their profiles, so it’s no surprise to see the two leading the way in this category. From Illinois, lanky sophomore Ethan Clark (Lakes Community) has some serious athleticism to be able to motor his long levers down the line at a 4.24 mark.

MAX FASTBALL VELOCITY

Clark appears again here where he’s developing a real reputation on the mound. Again, those long levers get downhill fast to help produce a fastball that topped out at an event-high 84 mph. Broad-shouldered lefty from La Crosse Central, Dylan Lapic, is already one of the big winners in the state coming out of the offseason and sat in the low-80s on Saturday, touching 83 mph. Westosha Central’s Kyle Mitchell (2021) is another uncommitted junior who has some sneaky athleticism attached to his game – and he touched 83 mph on the mound. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound junior from New Richmond, James Schutte, has some real arm strength and a feel for offspeed. He sat 81-83 mph in Kenosha over the weekend.

TOP EXIT VELOCITY

There was a three-way tie atop the exit velocity charts: Nate Freeze (Crystal Lake South, IL, 2021), Sam Ott (Oconomowoc, 2021), and Sweet. Freeze averaged the highest exit velocity off the tee, recording multiple 93 mph readings. Ott swings a physical left-handed bat with thump, and he has the exit velo numbers to back it up. And it wasn’t a surprise to see the live-bodied sophomore Sweet record a 93 mph high, either.

TOP INFIELD VELOCITY

Sawyer Smith (Shoreland Lutheran, 2021) was among the day’s best performers overall and his big, loose arm showed itself during infield reps where he topped at 86 mph across the infield, the highest velocity of the day. The sophomore Clark, naturally, was just a tick behind. Freshman Marco Falletti (Wilmot) was also among the top performers at the event, especially for a member of the 2023 class, and his advanced strength showed itself in a multitude of ways, including the infield, where he topped 85 mph, matching another strong, physical athlete, junior Nicklas Williams (Union Grove). Franklin freshman Noah Musolf has a whippy arm worth watching, and he touched 84 mph during infield defense evaluations.

TOP OUTFIELD VELOCITY

Catholic Memorial’s Anthony Gross (2021) came into the event as one of the day’s highest-rated prospects and he reasserted his physicality on Saturday. His 89 mph high from the outfield topped this leaderboard. Here’s another area where Mitchell’s arm strength showed itself, too, touching 88 mph on his throws home. Wilmot junior Jack Vozel was near the top of most of the categories he participated in, including this one, and the same can be said about Freeze from Illinois.

TOP CATCHER VELOCITY

Anthony Vivian (Dodgeville, 2021) is a really strong, physical junior and his 75 mph high from out of the chute paced this group of backstops. Pulaski junior Michael Maloney was just a tick away from Vivian, too.

TOP POP TIMES

Sophomore A.J. Finco (Home School) better known for his physical bat, but he also averaged the lowest pop times at the event on Saturday. Vivian marginally trailed, as did Maloney. From Marquette University, sophomore Ethan Goll did well to put himself up near the top of this leaderboard as well.
