Inside the Recruitment: '17 RHP Jake Schmidt commits to Transylvania
September 20, 2016
Jake Schmidt, RHP, Dublin Scioto HS, Class of 2017
PBR: Why did you choose Transylvania?
Schmidt: I chose Transy because I really felt like I would fit in there. The campus is beautiful and the high academics are perfect for me.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Schmidt: Earlham College and Case Western
PBR: Where did the coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Schmidt: The Coaches first saw me at the PBR Top Prospect Games and they said they instantly wanted me. Coach Getsee called me about a week after he got the job at Transy and told me that I was one of there top recruits.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Schmidt: They are bringing me in as their top pitching recruit because I have high "Pitchability" paired with high "Projectability". They expect me to battle for a spot as a starter my freshman year.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Transy baseball?
Schmidt: I feel my biggest strength is my pitching mechanics. Another big strength are my offspeed pitches.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Schmidt: I play for Coach Jeff Schmitt on Ohio Elite 17u (Midwest Mojo 2017/2018 last summer) and my favorite experience was the Perfect Game BCS finals in Fort Meyers, FL. Great competition down there.
PBR: Now that recruiting process is over what are your individual and team goals for this spring?
Schmidt: My only goal this year at Dublin Scioto is have a great year and win as many games as possible with my senior class. It's been 4 years since we have all been together on the same level team in high school and we are very excited for it.
PBR: What were your stats for last spring season at Dublin Scioto?
Schmidt: Due to an early season injury, I only pitched for about 1/3 of the season my stat line was: 13.2 IP, 20 K, 4 H, 3 BB, 0 ER
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?
Schmidt: The toughest hitter I've faced in Ohio is Brandon DeHass from New Albany
