I-10 Border Battle: Stats Breakdown

The I-10 Border Battle took place on Saturday, January 18th at Joe Miller Ballpark on the Campus of McNeese State University. The invite only event featured 60+ prospects from both Louisiana and Texas.

We begin our instant analysis from Saturday’s event with a look at some top statistical performers. We measured six separate categories and we’ll detail the leaders in each category below.

10+ players turned in sub-7.05 second 60s on Saturday. Kameron Edwards (Barbe HS, LA) and Carter Griffin (Haughton HS, LA) led the way as they turned in identical 60-yard dash times of the event, posting a 6.59-second time. While Austin Beck (Allen HS, TX) and Griffin Cooley (Kinder HS, LA) followed closely as Beck clocked in a 6.66 and Cooley with a 6.71. 

The I-10 Border Battle had several pitchers standout with 6 players touching 84 mph or better. Ethan Garcia (New Braunfels Canyon HS, TX) led the way on the mound, running his fastball up to an event best 87 mph. While Zachary McNulty (Alexandria HS, LA) and Thomas Walsh (Alexandria HS, LA) both had solid showings on Saturday with McNulty running his fastball up to 87 mph and Walsh working up to 85 mph.

This years event saw 9 players with an exit velocity of 86 mph or better. John Alex Walsh (Alexandria HS, LA) and Tynan Gunn (Vista Ridge HS, TX) topped the exit velocity leaderboard on Saturday, posting 92 mph off a tee. Cade Tucker (Krum HS, TX) turned in an exit velocity of 91 mph while Landon Chustz (Catholic (BR) HS, LA) posted an 89 mph exit velocity.

John Alex Walsh (Alexandria HS, LA) and Luke Jackson (Lake Travis HS, TX) showed off quality arm strength on Saturday, posting an event high 84 mph positional velocity from the infield. While Thomas Walsh (Alexandria HS, LA) and Austin Beck (Allen HS, TX) followed them at the top of the leaderboard, posting an infield positional velocity of 82 mph. 

Slade Foreman (Bridge City HS, LA) topped the leaderboard with an event best 87 mph positional velocity from the outfield, while While Jake Brown (Sulphur HS, LA), JC Vanek (Barbe HS, LA) and Kameron Edwards (Barbe HS, LA) checked-in behind him with Brown going 84 mph and Vanek and Edwards registering 82 mph from the outfield.

Ethan Garcia (New Braunfels Canyon HS, TX) and Hayden Mangum (Calvary Baptist HS, LA) tied for an event best 1.97 second pop time while Carson Carey (Airline HS, LA) posted an event best 80 mph positional velocity for catchers.
