Headed North: 2021 RHP Devin Fletcher (Liberty)

Ground Forces

It's that time of the year again as we look at who's poised to scale the rankings in 2020. Let's pack up and head out as we look at:

headed North

Base Camp
Currently in the PBR Pennyslvania Class of 2021 Rankings at 90th overall and 26th among pitchers, Fletcher features a projectable 6-foot-7, 185-pound frame with plenty of length. He sat 81-85 mph with lots of moving parts coming towards the hitter. Repeats long arm motion well and stays on top routinely with significant arm-side run. Also showcased a 69-72 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and mixed in a changeup with quality sell at 69-70 mph.

The Ascent

After seeing the improvements Fletcher made from September 2018 to the Preseason All-State event in February 2019, it was evident that it’s only a matter of time before he blossoms into a must follow in his class. Not only does his long and lean frame suggest obvious room for strength and velocity to be added in the near future, but he also boasted an improved arsenal with increased feel for a windup that features a lot of jerky movement. This makes for difficult at-bats at the plate coupled with noticeable arm-side run and late life on the fastball. Fletcher’s hard work at his craft is paying off, as evidenced by some added weight to his frame and a 6 mph increase on his fastball since we last saw him.

Reaching the Summit

In order to keep working himself up the rankings and into a legit conversation as one of the top pitchers in his class, Fletcher should continue to find himself in the weight room filling out a frame that could reasonably add 35 pounds. Increased depth of the breaking ball and the ability to throw the changeup at a near similar speed to the fastball (7-10 mph difference) will make the funkiness of his windup play in-game even more. With some more refinement on his craft and increased feel for his long frame, it’s easy to see why Fletcher would catapult into becoming a must-get in the 2021 class."

Player Comparison

*Note: Many times coaches will ask our staff "Who does he remind you of?" Player "comps" are a popular tool in the scouting/recruiting world and we have decided to add that niche to our feature articles. Sometimes it's within the physical build, the numbers, the actions or a combination of all three.
