Now that the calendar reads January - it is almost that time. With winter workouts continuing and the start of the 2019 season not far away, be sure to keep checking in with Prep Baseball Reports upcoming events and coverage throughout the whole high school and summer seasons.

Today we take a look at:

climbing the ranks

BASE CAMP

Currently in the PBR NY rankings, May sits 54th overall in the 2021 class and 5th overall for corner infielders which covers the whole state. Offensively, the talented righty has a short and compact swing. May utilizes a quick leg kick for his timing and shows good aggression though the hitting zone covering the plate well. He drives the ball to all fields well making good contact in front of the plate. Overall May’s swing has a solid foundation with potential. Defensively, shows athletic footwork getting into a good fielding position in front of the baseball. Shows good hands getting the ball from the glove to the throwing hand with a quick transition. May has good aggressive footwork towards his throwing target with good ability to move left, right and in on the run.  Has also shown the ability to handle the outfield as well.

THE ASCENT

May has been to five PBR - NY events in the past and has increased his numbers at each event. His best recorded Exit Velocity of 82 MPH was recorded at our Oswego event in July 2018, while his best positional arm velocity was also set at this event with a 73 MPH posting. This comes off his first recorded numbers which occurred at his first PBR - NY event back in July 2017 with a Exit Velocity of 78 MPH and an arm velocity of 63 MPH. He's also shown in-game abilities as noted in our summer scout blog; flashing some juice at the plate.

REACHING THE SUMMIT

"May has shown a climb in his bat speed and arm strength. Having dabbled at 2B and the OF, improving his foot speed should be the biggest goal during 2019. Defensively with his athletic actions, he will need to quicken his footwork and first step. This will increase his range and clean up his footwork approaching the baseball. Overall, continued strength development and arm development will make May a for sure player to key on in the 2021 recruiting class."

PLAYER COMPARISON*

*Note: Many times coaches will ask our staff "Who does he remind you of?" Player "comps" are a popular tool in the scouting/recruiting world and we have decided to add that niche to our feature articles. Sometimes it's within the physical build, the numbers, the actions or a combination of all three.
