Featured Matchups
There are a ton of big-time matchups on the docket in the first three days of the 2019 season. Defending 4A State Champions and No. 6 team in our Preseason Power 25 Howard open their title defense on the road at Reservoir in an early Howard County showdown while the defending 3A State Champion Thomas Johnson Patriots host Catoctin in an early cross-division Central Maryland Conference game. The defending 1A State Champion Boonsboro Warriors; also from the CMC, travel to South Hagerstown for their opener on Thursday afternoon. Let's take a look at a few other featured games this week.
#18 Colonel Richardson @ Snow Hill - Thursday March 21st
The Bayside Conference kicks off the 2019 season on fire with a re-match of last year's Championship game between No. 18 Colonel Richardson and Snow Hill. The Eagles defeated the Colonels 4-1 for the title and will host this year's regular season match-up on Thursday afternoon. Look for the big arms of Jamison Covey (Harford CC) and Remy Mangum (Chesapeake College) to be on display for the Colonels as they look to avenge last season's loss.
No. 24 Charles H. Flowers @ No. 19 Leonardtown - Thursday March 21st
The defending 4A South Region Champion and No. 24 team in out PBR Preseason Power 25, Charles H. Flowers Jaguars travel to No. 19 Leonardtown in a big non-conference matchup to kick off the season Thursday afternoon. Hartford University commit and senior Tremayne Cobb Jr. will lead the Jaguars south to take on a Raiders squad that looks to contend for a SMAC Championship and 4A East Region title in 2019 led by US Naval Academy commit Nick Burch and junior Matthew Bobrowski.
No. 1 Archbishop Spalding @ No. 21 John Carroll - Friday March 22nd
Our No. 1 team in the Power 25 Archbishop Spalding is off to a solid start in 2019 and travels to No. 21 John Carroll for a key early season MIAA "A" Conference showdown. Spalding is loaded talent with a roster that features 8 commits and plenty more on the way. Cory Blohm (2019) - Bloomsburg University, Justin Caesar (2019) - University of Maryland - Baltimore County, Caleb Estes (2022) - University of Maryland, Ethan McCormick (2020) - Liberty University, Josh Moylan (2020) - East Carolina University, Noah Mrotek (2021) - University of Maryland, Patrick O'Farrell (2019) - Stevenson University, and Zach Powers (2019) - US Naval Academy could all see some kind of action as the Cavaliers look to start off 2019 on the right foot with a big conference win. John Carroll will make it tough however with seven commits of their own and more on the way as well. Committed Patriot players include Tyler Blittersdorf (2019) - Harford CC, Jack Colagiovanni (2019) - Wake Tech CC, Brandon Crews (2019) - Lebanon Valley College, Myles Janson (2019) - Menlo College, Ben Pika (2019) - Washington College, Nico Santoro (2019) - Lebanon Valley College, and Hunter Tipton (2019) - Eastern Mennonite University.
No. 19 Leonardtown @ No. 12 La Plata - Friday March 22nd
The No. 19 ranked Leonardtown Raiders will be tested early as they travel to No. 12 La Plata a day after opening up at home against Prince George's powerhouse No. 24 Charles H. Flowers. The Warriors return a bevy of players from last year's 2A State Finalist squad highlighted by Austin Brown, Ryan Calvert, Zach Harris, and Dean Kirby (Alderson Broaddus University). It's a cross division game in the competitive Southern Maryland Athletic Conference but one that definitely has our juices flowing.
No. 2 Calvert Hall @ #7 Georgetown Prep - Saturday March 23rd
The No. 2 Cardinals travel on Saturday for a showdown with No. 7 Georgetown Prep. Calvert Hall features the No. 1 player in our 2019 rankings in Jose Torres (North Carolina State University), Parker Landwehr (Boston College), Garrett McIlhenney (Misericordia University), hard throwing uncommitted senior LHP Pete Marchineck and a host of others including sophomore Alex Khan (West Virginia University), and the very talented freshman Lamar King. The Little Hoyas feature a few commits of their own in Lucas Donlon 2019 (Virginia Tech), Anthony Fiallo 2020 (Navy), and TJ Williams 2020 (Notre Dame). Keep an eye on freshman Brock Rose, who is an exciting young pitching prospect as well as Ryan Pastor on the mound.
