liberty 6, James Monroe 3
Liberty used dominant pitching and some timely hitting to capitalize on mistakes in defeating James Monroe. The Raiders were able to get on the board in the first without a hit as a walk and a wild pitch led to a 1-0 lead. James Monroe would answer in the bottom of the first when a walk, error and single by Tripp Shilett gave the Mavericks a 2-1 lead.
Liberty would take the lead for good in the third when singles by Dylan Basham and Tyler Mullins combined with some defensive miscues led to three runs. The Raiders were able to add on in in the following inning on a two run single by Ethan Hill that scored Basham and Mullins who had also singled.
James Monroe closed out the scoring in the fifth as multiple walks and an error resulted in the final 6-3 score. Trenton Begley, No. 2 in the WV Class of 2018 rankings, got the win in overpowering fashion. His final line included 6.1 IP, 3H, 0 ER, 4BB and 12 K. Multiple hit games were recorded by Basham, Mullens, Hill and Shifflet.
