Future Prospects Showcase McCook: Statistical Analysis

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

This past Sunday, March 3, the PBR Illinois team hosted its second Future Prospects Showcase and Education Camp of 2019 at The MAX in McCook, Ill. The event was for players representing either the high school graduating class of 2023, 2024 with a few 2025s in the mix as well.

The showcase has a dual function: to teach prospects about the showcase atmosphere and the recruiting process as well as to identify young talent who will be in the mix for invitations later in the year to join us for the annual Junior Future Games event in August. Today we take a look at our statistical findings. We measured seven separate categories and we’ll detail the leaders in each category below. It is important to keep in mind that these prospects are still extremely young and their numbers should only go up from here, as they continue to grow and mature.

Glancing over the numbers, there are a few names that stick out. 2023 INF/RHP Cam Collier put up a strong statistical day across the board. Collier, a left-handed hitter, had the top exit velocity of 85 mph and led the infield velocity as well as the top pitching velocity, topping at 83 mph from each spot. Outside the sheer numbers, Collier, who has a physically-advanced, athletic frame, is one of the top 2023 prospects we have seen to-date.

Another name to keep an eye on is UTIL Zion Rose. Rose has a strong, athletic frame and found himself towards the top of 6-of-the-7 categories.

The one sub-7.0 60 time on the day belongs to OF Kameron Gethers (Brother Rice, 2023).

Andy Roman, Mark Wagner and Bryce Nevils are a trio of 2023s to remember moving forward. All three impressed in multiple areas throughout the day but look as though they have the actions, athleticism and arm strength to stay behind the plate moving forward.

Keep an eye out for a full scouting report on each and ever player in the coming months.

For now, here’s a look at the top performances from a statistical standpoint.
