Future Prospect Showcase Lockport: Statistical Analysis

This past Sunday, March 31, the PBR Illinois staff hosted its final Future Prospects Showcase and Education Camp of 2019 at Bo Jackson's Elite Sports Dome in Lockport, IL. The event was for players representing either the high school graduating class of 2023 and 2024.

The showcase has a dual function: to teach prospects about the showcase atmosphere and the recruiting process as well as to identify young talent who will be in the mix for invitations later in the year to join us for our annual Junior Future Games event in August. Today we take a look at our statistical findings. We measured seven separate categories and we’ll detail the leaders in each category below. It is important to keep in mind that these prospects are still extremely young and their numbers should only go up from here, as they continue to grow and mature.

At first glance, Matthew Santana (Marian Catholic, 2023) stood out as one of the top prospects at the event, statistically speaking. Strong in stature and advanced for his age, Santana topped the Exit Velocity Leaderboard (92 mph), Top Catcher Pops (2.10-2.25), Top Catcher Velocity (74 mph) and tied for first in Max Fastball Velocity (79 mph). Santana is athletic on all sides of the ball with juice in his bat and clean actions behind the plate. He is a high follow prospect moving forward.

Kamrin Cox (Homewood-Flossmoor, 2023) and Tommy Atkinson (St. Rita, 2023) showcased their speed tool being the only two players to eclipse the sub-7 second 60-yard dash mark. Cox crossed the finish line in 6.88 seconds and Atkinson was right behind at 6.97.

LHP Luke Brown (Plainfield North, 2023) tied Santana for top fastball velocity but that's not the full story. He isn't just a thrower as the 6-foot, 180-pound lefty impressed our staff showing upside in his craft with easy effort and pitchability. RHP/INF Ryan Hussey (Providence Catholic, 2023) finished second in Fastball Velocity (78 mph) showing an uninterrupted, clean arm action with a FB/CH combo coaches can dream on. The arm talent is present as Hussey also topped the Infield Velocity leaderboard at 80 mph across the diamond.

Clay Schroeder (Naperville Central, 2023) and Dillon Head (Homewood-Flossmoor, 2023) tied for Top Outfield Velocity (80 mph) while also seeing their names in other leaderboards. Schroeder topped 77 mph on the mound, good for fourth, and Head finished third in the 60-yard dash at 7.01 seconds.

Keep an eye out for a full scouting report on each and ever player in the coming months.
