Future Games: Team New Jersey Preview

This one-of-a-kind event will feature the best uncommitted Class of 2019 prospects and select 2020 prospects from our 30-plus state coverage area. The Future Games will take place on August 2 - August 5 (Thursday-Saturday) at Grand Park, a state-of-the-art 22-field baseball complex located in Westfield, IN, just north of Indianapolis.

The Prep Baseball Report Future Games is the premier summer scouting event for Class of 2019 prospects and select 2020 prospects. Last year, more than 130 colleges from all over the country were in attendance. The Prep Baseball Report services are subscribed by more than 700 colleges and pro scouts.

Every player in the PBR Future Games will be outfitted in adidas uniform, cleats and hat. Players will also receive maximum visibility from college coaches all over the country, in addition to being promoted through the Prep Baseball Report multimedia platforms. 

Each state team will play three games. On Wednesday, all position players will be put through a showcase workout in which they will run 60s, take batting practice and be evaluated at their primary position. 

New Jersey will have 22. total players participating in the event, playing on two different teams. 2019 RHP Jack Povey (Red Bank Regional HS, NJ), 2019 SS Dante Ciaramella (Monmouth Regional HS,  NJ), and 2020 RHP Nick Hammer (Washington Township HS, NJ) will be playing with Team Select – a combination team with some of the best players from Texas, Colorado, Mississippi, and Oklahoma; while 2019 C Michael McGee (Westfield HS, NJ) will be playing with Team New York.

Scouting Report

Futures Preview South (June 4th, 2017)
Andrey has a broad shouldered frame at 6-feet 200-pounds. One of the top prospects from the event. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.36 seconds, recorded an exit velocity of 87 MPH. At the plate, starts in a tall, slightly opened stance with hands above back shoulder. Hands/arms show some looseness and rhythm prepitch. Quiet lower half as pitch comes in, uses a foot stride to start swing. Hands load back minimally. Strong hands and upper body help produce some power. Defensively - took ground balls at 3B. Topped at 85 MPH across the infield. Clean hands, feet show some choppiness laterally. Throws had some carry and were on the bag at first base. On the mound, fastball topped at 89 MPH and sat mostly 86-88 throughout his outing. High-3/4 slot, short, quick and explosive arm action. Ball has natural armside run. Changeup is a nice complement to running fastball at 70-72 with fade. Finishes toward the first base side of rubber on delivery. Stiff front leg on landing, tall chest and upper body on release.







Scouting Report

Bozzuti has a strong, broad shouldered build at 5-foot-10 180-pounds. At the plate, starts in a crouch with an opened stance and his hands just above his back shoulder. As pitch comes in, uses a big leg kick to resquare body to homeplate. Uses extension in hands and arms to create power, finishes with some lift to swing.

NJ Futures Preview (6/4/16)
Cancellieri stands 5-foot-10  180-pounds, and has a strong, athletic body for a 2019. Hitting- sits in a crouch and uses a short leg kick for a load. Hands stay relaxed and then slightly move backward into a strong loaded position, and his hands explode to the baseball. Fielding- shows above average hands in the infield. Choppy at times with feet in setting himself and throwing - throws to first in a true over the top motion. Ball has backspin and some carry. Pitching- Showed excellent FB velocity for his age at 80-82 and touched 83 with run when it is down in the strikezone. Showcased a slower 11-5 breaker that is more of a gradual curveball, and a harder, sharper slider that had cutter-like movement. Throws from a high-3/4 to over-the-top arm angles. Has a smooth delivery. Hands stay stagnant throughout. Has a tendency to snap his neck when he pitches.

WWBA Underclass 10/6/16
Denner has an athletic build at 6-feet 175-pounds. Sat 77-80 mph with FB, up to 81 and 82. Breaking ball has small 1/7 break at 67-69 mph. Smooth looking delivery, throws from a ¾ slot. Mechanics are sound, finishes square to home plate. Drop and drive type pitcher, uses lower half on back leg well to drive down the mound. Projectable arm with command of FB. 






Scouting Report

DiTullio has an athletic build at 6-feet 180-pounds. Starts in a tall, opened stance with hands rested on his shoulder. Uses a small foot stride to start swing, hands load down and back slightly. Explosive hands and hips through the zone, creates some elasticity in finish. Gap to gap hitter with feel for the barrel. In the field, quick and easy hands in exchange, plays through his throws to first base with momentum.

Underclass Games (September 18, 2016)
Favieri has a lean, athletic build at 6-feet 165-pounds. Currently ranked No. 9 in 2019 class. High follow prospect with tons of upside and room for added muscle/strength. Fastball sat 84-86 with a 68 mph 11/5 breaking ball and flashed 71 mph straight change. Slow mechanics to start, but explodes to home plate with quick arm. Shows some effort in finish, but arm action is loose and quick and arm speed is apparent. Offensively- LH with an athletic and balanced stance and approach. Opened stance, small stride to start load. Very fluid and loose swing. Upper body and hips work smoothly. Line drive hitter with potential for gap to gap power as he continues to mature. High follow.

Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11th, 2017)
Glancy has a lean, athletic build at 5-foot-10 170-pounds. One of the top performers from the event. Ran a 7.01 60 yard dash. Recorded exit velocity that topped at 90 mph. OF velocity of 87 mph. Offensively- starts with a tall slightly opened stance with hands just above shoulder. As pitch comes in, uses a leg kick and hands load back and up. Violent movements in hips and hands with swing. Creates gap to gap power. One of the best batting practices of the event. Defensively- Free and easy arm action, quick twitch athlete. Plays through throws on release. High-3/4 arm slot with carry and life to arm. High follow prospect.

Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11th, 2017)
Guzzardo has a strong, big bodied build at 6-foot 190-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.42. Offensively- starts in a tall, wide stance with hands just above shoulder. As pitch comes in, shifts weight on to back side and loads hands straight back and up. No stride, turns front foot inward then hips turn to start swing. Flat bat path, some power and gap to gap potential. Exit Velocity topped at 90 mph. Defensively- Fields ball on outside of foot and continues momentum to play through throws. High-3/4 slot with backspin on throws - throws topped at 78 mph.

4/19/17
Helfgott has a lean, athletic build – shows plus athleticism and baseball movements at SS. Throws to 1B have some carry, even when he is going to his backhand. Offensively, starts in an opened stance and in a crouch with hands below his back shoulder. As pitch comes in, squares feet to homeplate, hands load up and back. Shows advanced bat speed for size and age.

Higgins has a sturdy, athletic frame at 5-foot-10 180-pounds. At the plate, controlled and quiet approach with feel for the barrel. Handles velocity well, line drive hitter with power potential.

Futures Preview North ( June 3, 2017)
Lanky 6-foot-3, 165-pound frame, with room fill out. One of the top prospects 2019 for the state of NJ ranked No. 4 in the NJ 2019 Rankings and No. 38 in the National Rankings. Throws from a Low ¾ arm slot with a short arm action. Fastball topped at 88 MPH while sitting consistently 86-88.  Fastball showed late life with some arm side run. Commanded both a slider and a knuckle curve at 75-76, 79-80 respectively.  Slider was tight with downward movement while knuckle curve had a 11-5 break. Arm maintained fastball speed while executing off-speed pitches. High follow with high ceiling.


PBR Future Games (August 4-6, 2016)
Hunt is long and wiry at 6-foot-3 170-pounds. Very high follow prospect with a high ceiling and projectable frame. Offensively- left handed hitter starts opened with hands above shoulder. Uses a leg kick that starts load. Hands are loaded pre pitch. Leg kick generates power, very quick hands and aggressive hips. Exit velo of 86. Defensively- Smooth movements in the field at SS for his tall, lanky frame. Fields ball out in front with clean hand exchange and quick, smooth hands. Throws were from a 3/4 angle at 83 mph.






Scouting Report

Hunter has a strong build at 6-foot-2 185-pounds. LHH catcher with high ceiling on the offensive side and defensive side. Offensively, starts in a neutral stance with a slight knee bend and hands just above back shoulder. Uses strength in hips and torso to produce gap to gap power. Defensively, quiet behind the plate with soft hands.

Futures Preview South (June 4th, 2017)
Kane has a lanky, athletic build at 6-feet 160-pounds. One of the top 2020s in NJ and one of the top ranked players in the country for his class. Ran the 60 yard dash in 6.71 and recorded an exit velocity of 87 MPH. Offensively, ultra-smooth swing and load. Tall, opened stance with bat parallel to ground above his back shoulder to start. Uses a leg lift and big stride to start swing. Hands load down and back. Effortless swing and follow through, produces gap to gap pop. Produces lift in follow through – rises up slightly in finish. Launched multiple over the right field wall at the event, and showcased his speed and athleticism on the base paths during gameplay. Aggressive baserunner, always looking to get the extra bag. Defensively, smooth and effortless in attacking ground balls in the outfield – throws topped at 82 MPH and were on target. Can play all three OF spots, but projects as CF at next level. High ceiling prospect with a lot to like.

3/1/17
O'Neill has a strong, athletic frame with broad shoulders at 5-foot-11 180-pounds. One of the top arms from the event. Fastball topped at 89, sat mostly 87-89. Showcased a breaking ball at 72-74 with 11/5 shape and a changeup with some armside fade at 78-80. Slingshot type arm action, short and quick. Explosive and athletic going down the mound. Closes self off in leg lift and lands slightly closed. Exceptional strength in lower half allows him to clear hips despite being closed. High riser in 2019 rankings.






Scouting Report

Peacock has a long, lanky build at 6-foot-2 200-pounds. On the mound, has been up to 88 so far this summer, sits 85-88 with his fastball. Long, loose and clean arm action from a high-3/4 slot. Flexibility in hips and upper body helps produce torque and velocity. Projectable frame with room to fill out.

Underclass Games (September 18, 2016)
Petrosino has a strong, physical frame at 5-foot-9 155-pounds. Offensively- has a quick, compact swing. Very quiet in the box and in approach. Violently torques hips and hands to generate some power. Starts in a tall, narrow stance with hands and bat resting on shoulder. Athletic weight transfer for lower body load started by a small stride. Hands show quickness to the ball. Defensively- athletic and smooth movements at 2B and SS. Throws from low-3/4 angle with some armside run. 

Futures Preview (6/4/16)
Petrosino is a physically built 5-foot-9 155-pound middle infielder. Ran a 7.03 60 yard dash and had an Exit Velocity of 87, which was good for top three in the whole event.  Took one of the more impressive batting practices, peppering the gaps with line drives. Stands in the box with feet close together and slightly opened. Uses a short stride and vicious hip torque for power. Stance is overall very quiet, but controlled and balanced. Hands and hips explode through the ball. Had one of the better days at bat during the simulated game, doubling twice to deep left center field. Fielding-  Athletic in the field, Petrosino can play 2B, SS, or 3B. Soft hands and clean, quick exhange, Petrosino throws to first were clocked at 78 MPH. Varies between low-3/4 and 3/4 arm slots. Occasionally throws tail to the arm-side because of arm slot. Throws had carry.

Last Chance Open I.D. Showcase (November 5th, 2016)
Whooley has an athletic build at 5-foot-10 175-pounds. Offensively- recorded an exit velocity of 79 mph. Starts in a wide stance with feet slightly opened and in a crouch. Hands are relaxed resting on back shoulder with bat flat. Uses a foot stride to start swing. Hand load is small, hands come up off shoulder to even with shoulder and back elbow sticking outward. Quick hands to the ball give him some power.


Underclass Games (September 18, 2016)

Whooley has an athletic build at 5-foot-10 170-pounds. Stood out as one of the quicker catch-and-throw catchers at the event. Offensively- Has a wide stance with a slight crouch. Uses weight transfer first then a small stride to start swing. Hips and hands work well together. Already has gap to gap power, added strength to frame will increase power potential. Defensively- advanced receiving skills for age. Quiet upper body and head, receives ball with relaxed glove hand. Athleticism shows in blocking ability. Is able to move laterally very well. Very quick catch-to-throw transfer.

Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11th, 2017)
Ciaramella has an athletic build at 5-foot-9 160-pounds. One of the top performers of the entire event. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.15 seconds. Recorded an exit velocity that topped at 90 mph. Offensively- starts in a wide, balanced stance and a slight crouch. Hands are cocked back, level with back shoulder. Uses a small leg stride and a toe tap to start load/swing. Hand load is small as hands move back slightly. Quick, short, explosive swing with some lift on the finish. Line drive type hitter. Defensively- Smooth actions at SS, easy footwork and quiet movements. In control of body when moving laterally, exchange is quick and fluid. Throws from high-3/4 slot with backspin, throws topped at 83 mph. Quick, loose arm action. Pitching- Fastball topped at 84 mph, sat 83-84 for his outing. Breaking ball showed slider-like 11/5 movement at 66-68. Flashed a hard changeup at 77 mph. Quick arm swing, very clean arm action. Drop and drive type pitcher. Gets velocity from driving down the mound and back leg strength. Lands closed and on toe of landing foot. Foot lands opened, at an angle toward the first base line. Causes him to spin off to that side on release. Impressive talent that will continue to improve throughout the spring and summer.


New Jersey Games (July 23, 2016)
Ciaramella is 5-foot-9 160-pounds and is a middle infielder and a right handed pitcher. One of the top 2019s at the event. Projectable, clean arm action on the mound, up to 83. Slurvy-type breaking ball at 62-65. Very athletic and clean actions in the infield. Looks comfortable at all spots in the infield - has the arm strength to play SS. Still growing.
Offensively - starts with bat on shoulder, hand load is initiated by small foot stride forward. Hand speed and power will continue to improve as he continues to get stronger. Exit Velo 81.
Defensively - glove is another top asset. Smooth in everything. Throws from 3/4 to high-3/4 slot. Throws had carry and backspin at 80 mph across the infield.

Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11th, 2017)
McGee has a big bodied frame at 5-foot-10 194-pounds. Ran a 8.85 60 yard dash. Offensively- recorded Exit Velocity of 88 mph. Starts in a tall, narrow stance with hands above shoulder. As pitch comes in, uses a small leg lift and stride to start swing. Hands load down and back. Back leg collapses into front leg. Pulls off on finish occasionally. Defensively- recorded pop times between 1.85-1.90. Throws topped at 73 mph to 2B. Heavy feet, exchange is clean. Replaces feet well.

Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11th, 2017)
Povey has a lanky, athletic build at 6-foot-2 165-pounds. RHP ranked No. 15 in NJ's 2019 class. High follow prospect. Povey's fastball topped at 84 mph, sat mostly 82-83. Breaking ball has sharp 12/6 break at 65-68. Also flashed a straight changeup at 72 mph. Curveball separates him from his peers. Sharp swing-and-miss pitch with command. High-3/4 slot, long, loose arm action with a whippy finish. Creates uphill shoulder tilt going down the mound, finishes toward the first base side of the mound. Good looking pitcher frame with room for added muscle.


10/6/16
Povey has a lanky build at 6-feet 150-pounds. Free and loose arm action from a high-¾ slot, Povey sat 81-83 touching 84. Showcased his breaking ball well for strikes at 68-71 mph. True 12/6 breaker with tight spin, downer breaker with swing and miss potential. Flashed a straight change at 76 mph as well. Projectable frame, already up to 84 mph - more velocity in the tank as he continues to add muscle.

New Jersey Games (July 23-25, 2016)
Povey is a wiry 6-foot 150-pound RHP. Very projectable arm and prospect overall. Had one of the best curveballs at the event. Sat 81-82 touching 83 with a true 12/6 curveball at 67, advanced pitch for his age. Has been up to 84 mph with fastball. Throws from high-3/4 slot with lightning quick arm action for his age. Already has control of body with balanced finish. Will have velocity jump as he continues to add muscle to frame.
