The Prep Baseball Report Future Games is a one-of-a-kind event featuring the top 2016 prospects from across our 10 state coverage area. This year taking place at Grand Park in Westfield, IN from July 31-August 2, hundreds of scouts from across the country will fill the stands to watch some of the top uncommitted 2016 prospects across our coverage area.
Last year’s Illinois Class of 2015 Future Games Team has already seen thirteen Division 1 commitments from that roster. Over the next several weeks we will begin to unveil prospects who have been selected to participate in this year's event with a brief history and bio of the player and what we can expect from him at the PBR Future Games.
Name: Garret Acton
High School: Lemont
Graduating Class: 2016
Position: RHP
Height: 6-0
Weight: 195
Rank
State: 19
Overall: 115
Illinois class 3A State Champion Lemont HS boasted the state’s best pitcher in LSU-bound Jake Latz, but they also featured 2016 prospect Garret Acton, who transferred over from Brother Rice for his sophomore season. Acton provided a solid number three pitcher for Lemont behind Latz and fellow southpaw Charlie Wright. The bulldog right-hander went 5-2 on the mound for the Indians, allowing 46 hits in 51.2 innings, striking out 48 and walking 21. Acton has seen his fastball touch 89 mph this summer on the showcase circuit, generally sitting between 85-87 mph with late life. His short, high ¾ arm action is deceptive, and he challenges hitters with his fastball which appears harder at times. His short slider sat 70-72 mph early this spring, and has been up to 74-75 this summer with added power and late tilt. Acton also shows the ability to throw his 77-79 mph changeup for strikes with some bottom when he doesn’t push it. Acton is intriguing because he possesses arm strength and still does not look physically matured. He plays his summer ball for the Illinois Sparks.
