Yesterday the Fall Prospect Program went to University of Arkansas Monticello. Teams competed in a 9 inning contest and went through a full offensive evaluation prior to their game, including exit velocity. Here is a look at some of the highlights and exit velocity from the first session which featured the Orange Team and Arkansas Prospects 17U team.
The Arkansas Prospects were in control of the contest from open to close winning the game 11-2. The 2017 Logan Gilbertson picked up the win for the prospects pitching 4 perfect innings. 2017 MIF Casey Martin lead the offensive onslaught with a multi-hit game including a home run. The Orange team received strong performances from 2017 OF Chase Bryan who had a hit and a run scored. On the mound 2017 RHP Michael Sheppard was sharp pitching three innings only allowing 1 earned run
Here is a short breakdown on some of the pitchers who stood out.
2017 Logan Gilbertson, RHP, Cabot HS
Gilbertson is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He pounded the strike zone with a fastball of 80-83 mph with some run. He mixed in a change up and curveball for strikes to keep hitters off balance. He pitches from a H ¾ arm slot with a clean arm action. He uses repeatable mechanics which allows him to throw strikes on a consistent bases.
2017 Michael Sheppard, RHP, Cabot HS
Sheppard is a 5-foot-7 155-pound right hander with an athletic frame and a thin build. He works from a low ¾ arm slot with a quick arm. He competes in the strike zone with a fastball of 78-81 mph with late run. He throws a Frisbee slider to compliment the fastball at 68-71 mph. He did a good job locating the ball in the bottom half of the strike zone and inducing several ground balls.
