As the release of an updated and expanded PBR 2021 Rankings draws nearer, On the Hunt takes a look back at some of the top 2021 position players at the Future Games. Each player was able to showcase advanced skills in front of hundreds of college recruiters with many producing eye-popping performances. Although it was a smaller sample size of the class, there is plenty to be excited about with the future of these young ballplayers.

Lonnie White Jr. OF / 3B / Malvern Prep, PA / 2021

White was one of the breakout prospects at the Future Games where his athleticism and high-upside had recruiters glued to his play. A three-sport athlete (basketball, football), White’s athleticism is undeniable. He ran a 6.58 60-yard dash, produced an exit velocity of 92 mph off the tee, and unleashed throws up to 91 mph from the outfield. His 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame has proportional strength throughout, yet shows signs of adding a considerable amount of strength in the future. While his frame alone is enough to be highly intriguing, I was even more impressed by White’s skill. At the plate, the right-handed hitter remains balanced with little head movement, utilizing a leg kick to separate his hands back. He quickly works the barrel through the zone, striking the ball with impressive force, and shows the ability to work gap to gap. His pitch recognition stood out as he was not fooled, and showcased advanced tracking ability. In the outfield, he made several impressive plays, and his long, graceful strides combined with confident ball skills will make him a coveted centerfield prospect moving forward.
