Draft League Spotlight: Mason Mellott
May 14, 2021
Player: Mason Mellott
Position: RHP
School: Penn State
A staple in Penn State’s bullpen since his freshman year, Mellott has recorded more saves (10) than any pitcher in program history. He’s been used as a fireman primarily, often working multiple innings in a given outing. The 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander creates deception using a crossfire delivery that helps him impart run and sink on his 88-90 mph fastball. He throws his low-80s slider with a lot of horizontal action, sweeping across the zone to induce chase swings and weakly-hit ground balls.
