Draft League Spotlight: Alec Huertas
April 9, 2021
Player: Alec Huertas
Position: RHP
School: Long Island
Huertas ranked among LIU-Brooklyn’s staff leaders in wins (4, tied-first), strikeouts (51, second) and innings pitched (57, third) as a freshman and then fared well at the outset of 2020, tossing a complete game against Nicholls that contributed to his 0.50 ERA in three starts for the Sharks before the season was suspended. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound righty imparts run and sink on his fastball, sitting 92-93 mph and touching 95 from an over-the-top slot. A swing-and-miss slider gives Huertas an out pitch, and he rounds out his arsenal with a changeup.
