Draft Board: Arizona Roots

Brett Thorney
State Scouting Director

PBR Draft HQ recently came out with its 2020 MLB Draft Board. With 200 total prospects listed, there are players represented throughout the whole country and at the different stages of baseball including high school and college prospects. Today, we are taking a look into the PBR Draft Board and highlighting players with Arizona roots. This includes players that are currently playing college or high school baseball in the state or played high school ball in AZ in the past.

The state of Arizona is well represented on the list, highlighted by Arizona State standout, Spencer Torkelson. Torkelson takes over the top spot, who rises all the way from No. 2. The best hitter in the class lit up opposing pitchers to the tune of .340/.598/.780 in 17 games with six home runs. He also walked a staggering 31 times, 15 of which were intentional. He didn't play his high school baseball in Arizona but has been a big part of Arizona State the last couple years. Another player who comes in on the list with having played his high school ball at Cienega High School in Vail, AZ is Nick Gonzales, who went out of state to play his college baseball at New Mexico State. Gonzales was arguably the hottest hitter in DI baseball this spring. Gonzales hit .488 with 12 HRs, 36 RBIs, and 26 Runs through 16 games. List below are the players with Arizona Roots in the PBR Draft Board:
