Pennsylvania District 3 Complete Standings
May 1, 2012
District 3 is the second largest in the state, with roughly 10 fewer teams than District 7. Like the WPIAL, these teams are vying for the opportunity to win a district championship and to gain access to the PIAA state tournament. District 3 will take 20 teams into the district tournament in the Class AAAA and the Class AAA brackets, while the lower two classifications receive 10 participants each.
The District 3 championships will be played on May 30th and May 31st at Sovereign Bank Stadium in York, PA. Sovereign Bank Stadium is the home of the York Revolution.
The most recent PIAA champions to come out of District 3 were Penn Manor (AAAA) in 2005, Northern York (AAA) in 2011, Bermudian Springs (AA) in 2010 and Camp Hill (A) in 2009.
District 3 has an elaborate power rating system to rank teams in each classification and to determine automatic qualifiers to the playoffs. Without getting into the details of the power ratings, here is how teams that would qualify for the playoffs today rank in each classification.
