Desert Oasis Scout Day Recap

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

Defending State Champions, Desert Oasis, hosted the first Scout Day of the year featuring a talented group of uncommitted 2021 prospects highlighted by 1B/LHP Jacob Walsh, 98 mph Exit Velocity, LHP Reed Schaefer, 85 mph fastball with potential plus off speed stuff, and C Dylan Dirig, 2.02 pop time and one of the best 2021 receivers in the state. These weren't the only standouts from the event through, 2020 Jacob Baca, 6-foot-4/200 pound LHP/OF, threw an event high 86 mph from the outfield, while sitting low to mid 80's on the mound with command of his three pitch mix (FB, CB, CH), 2022 Tyler Stott, a two-way, 6-foot-3/175 pounds, matched Schaefer with the top fastball velocity of the day at 85 mph and Nate Slaman, who may have had the most impressive round of batting practice of the day, driving the ball to the big part of the yard with his gap to gap approach and flashes of power to the pull side. This is a team that graduated a ton of talent last year, but the Diamondbacks are looking to reload not rebuild for another State Championship run with the prospects who attended the Desert Oasis Scout Day.
