Here is a look at some of the scores and highlights from games around the state on Monday, May 1, 2017.
CAK 5, Farragut 0
Spencer Strider tossed the complete-game for the Warriors on Monday evening, holding the vaunted Admiral offense at bay. Strider struck out 8 and allowed only 6 hits on the night. Zane Keener went 2-3 with 2 triples and Hudson Chastain recorded a hit, a run, and an RBI. Jesse Osborne and Connor Quinn both went 2-3 and scored a run for CAK, as well.
GCA-Knoxville 10, Greenback 2
The Rams' offense came to play on Monday evening, pushing across 10 runs on 12 hits and 4 walks in their matchup with Greenback. Noah Gent, Taylor Lawson, and Landon Crumbley each went 2-4 and combined for 4 doubles, 3 runs, and 5 RBIs. Eli Nordhorn went 2-2 with 2 runs, while Ryan Medders and Dylan Lloyd both went 1-3 with 2 RBIs. Hunter Ross earned the W on the mound, tossing a complete game and striking out 5.
Knoxville Central 11, William Blount 2
The Bobcats received a big performance from the Rheineckers on Monday night, as Cole and Dane combined to go 4-9 with 4 runs and 7 RBIs. Cole doubled twice and Dane hit a home run. Bass Cooper walked 4 times and scored 2 runs, while Garret Hamilton went 3-4 with a double and a run. Nathan Stamps earned the W on the mound.
McCallie 5, Marion County 3
Corbin Brooksbank went 2-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI to help lead the Blue Tornado to a win over Marion County on Monday evening. John Behrends also doubled and scored a run, while Dane Beard drove in 2. McCallie used 4 different pitches, as Holden Shell earned the W and Austin Chastain recorded the save with 6 Ks in 2 innings of work.
Covington 6, St. George's 3
Brock Lomax had a huge night for the Chargers from both sides of the ball, finishing 3-4 with a double and a run scored and tossing the final 4 innings on the mound. Lomax allowed only 1 run and struck out 5 to earn the long save. Austin Baskin had a 2-RBI double and scored a run, Rob Hendren went 1-2 with 2 RBIs, and Brennan McClain had a hit, a run, and an RBI.
Chattanooga Christian 12, South Pittsburg 5
Chattanooga Christian used an 8-run second inning that was topped off by a John Rhodes grand slam to down the Pirates of South Pittsburg on Monday night. Rhodes finished with 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored, while Aaron Anand and Chris King combined to go 4-4 with 3 walks, 4 runs, and 3 RBIs. Nathanael Kapp also went 2-4 with 2 doubles, a run, and an RBI and earned the W on the mound.
Summit 5, Siegel 3
Summit used a complete team effort to take out the Siegel Stars on Monday evening, with 6 players finishing with exactly 1 hit. Tanner Koza led the way by going 2-3 with a double, a run, and 2 RBIs and recording the only multi-hit day for the Spartans. Reed Johnson had a hit and scored a run, while Chris McElvain and Wade Lopiccolo doubled. Blake Money earned the W on the mound, tossing all 7 innings and allowing 5 hits and striking out 7.
Goodpasture 13, Gordonsville 7
The Cougars received a huge performance from both David Wilson and Cole Carter, as the duo combined to go 8-9 with 5 runs and 6 RBIs on the night. Carter hit a home run and Wilson doubled twice. Gage Gregory and Ryan Lyle each went 2-4, as Gregory had a double and 3 RBIs and Lyle scored 2 runs. Wyatt Blessing earned the W on the mound, tossing the first 4 innings in scoreless fashion.
Hardin Valley 10, West (Knoxville) 9 (9 innings)
The Hawks' offense powered them to a big 9-inning win on Monday night over the Rebels of West High School. Cameron Fisher and Drew Parks each went 3-4 and combined for 3 runs and 6 RBIs, including a home run from Parks and a double from Fisher. Lucas Cook and Bryce Jenkins both went 2-5 and combined for 3 runs and 2 RBIs, including a home run from Cook. Anders Cook earned the W on the mound by tossing 2 innings of scoreless relief.
Beech 10, White House 0
Michael Hayes tossed a complete-game shutout to lead the Buccaneers to a Monday evening win over White house, allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 9 in 6 innings of work. Ryan Mortensen powered the offense by finishing 3-3 with a home run, 4 RBIs, and 1 run scored. Nelson Smith and Ty Sutley combined to go 3-5 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs.
