Another chilly night across The Bluegrass didn’t stop a number of games from being played as Power 25 teams #6 Mercer County, #12 Ballard, and #18 Bourbon County all remained unbeaten. Beechwood, ranked #8 in the Power 25, got its season underway with a convincing win as well.
Here is a look at scores and highlights from around the state last evening.

#6 Mercer Co 11 Marion Co 0 (5 Innings)
Chris Goodman went 2-for-4 with a HR and 4 RBI, Russell Sims added a HR and 2 RBI, and Curry Brown, Jackson Stoeckinger, and Logan Horn all collected 2 hits apiece as the Titans pounded out 11 hits en route to the victory. Andrew Yates threw a complete game, 1-hit shutout with 7 K’s to pick up the win.
#8 Beechwood 14 Ludlow 0 (5 Innings)
Ethan Stringer went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, Jason Suchanek went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Brayden Combs added 2 hits and 2 RBI, and Robby Rundle homered as Beechwood won its season opener. Kyle Fieger tossed 4 shutout innings to pick up the win.
#9 Male 8 #24 East Jessamine 1
Male pulled away late scoring 5 runs in the final 2 innings for the win. Heath Brownley went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Daniel McFarland added 3 hits and scored twice to lead the Male offense. Tyler Capito got the win, throwing 3 scoreless innings with 5 K’s.

Tyler Klondike and Jordon Adell each doubled in the Ballard victory, and Ricky West struck out 7 in 3 innings of work on the mound.

Warren East 7 #21 South Warren 6
#23 Danville 5 Garrard Co 1
Danville scored a run in each of the first 3 innings to hand Garrard County its first loss of the season. Mason Stamm continued his hot bat going 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and a RBI, and Nick Serey drove in 2 runs. Serey picked up the win, firing a complete game in allowing just 4 hits with 7 K’s. Seth Murphy homered in the Garrard County loss.

Ryle 9 St. Henry 8
Jeremy Downs went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and came into pitch in the 7th with two on and no outs to record the save. Mason Forbes went 2-for-5 with a triple, Max Lonnemann went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Colin Craven added 2 hits in the Ryle victory. Will Allen picked up his first win of the season.
Bowling Green 3 Greenwood 1
Ethan Wilson and Justin Gentry each collected 2 hits in the Bowling Green victory. Stuart Posey picked up the win, tossing 5.2 innings with 5 K’s.
Breckinridge Co 2 Daviess Co 1
Despite being outhit 9-3, Breckinridge County held on for the one-run victory. Darrell Bohman worked 6 innings with 5 K’s to pick up the win, and Trevor Bishop pitched a scoreless 7th to earn the save.
Grayson Co 7 Trinity (Whitesville) 4
Grayson County used a 7-run 2nd inning to claim the victory. Jameson VanMeter collected 2 hits, and Logan Ramsey and Alex Shelhart added doubles in the winning cause. Joseph Anthony pitched 3 scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Taylor Co 5 Hart Co 1
Justice Gregory and John Wood each had 2 hits, and Dalton Brown added a double as Taylor County broke open a scoreless game with 3 runs in the 5th inning. Jordan Nicholas scattered 4 hits in going the distance for the win.
DeSales 8 Shelby Co 7
In a back and forth contest, DeSales scored twice in the top of the 7th and held on for the win. Henry Weiter went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, and 3 RBI, Alec Brothers went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, and Trevon Metcalf added 2 hits and 2 RBI to lead DeSales. Jaylin Blair worked 5 innings allowing 2 hits and no earned runs in picking up the win.
Conner 6 Highlands 0
Connor scored 4 times in the 1st inning and never looked back. Cameron Ross fired 5 shutout innings allowing just 1 hit while striking out 9 to pick up the win. Offensively, Ross added 2 hits, Ryan Ward launched a 3-run homer, and Jared Williams doubled twice and drove in 2 runs.
Bethlehem 12 Thomas Nelson 0 (5 innings)
Conner Ballard went 3-for-3 with a HR and 4 RBI, Blake Brangers went 2-for-2 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI, and John Riney added 2 hits and 2 RBI as Bethlehem cruised to the victory. Ballard went the distance on the mound allowing just 1 hit and striking out 7 along the way.
Anderson Co 8 Henry Co 7 (8 Innings)
Anderson County scored twice in the bottom of the 8th to claim the victory. Josh Brown went 2-for-4 with a double, and Max Crabtree drove in 2 runs to lead the Anderson County offense. Winning pitcher Brett Thompson allowed 1 run and struck out 7 over 5 innings of work.
Edmonson Co 6 Butler Co 1
Andrew Decker went 2-for-4 with a HR and 2 RBI, and Alex Basil worked 5 innings, allowing 3 hits and no earned runs with 8 K’s to record the win.
Eastern 15 North Oldham 4 (6 Innings)
Andrew Hoffman went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Chris Davis went 3-for-4 with a RBI, Michael Snipp added 2 hits, and Cameron Watson doubled home 3 runs in the Eastern win. Winning pitcher Nick Eubanks threw 4 scoreless innings allowing 4 hits while recording 3 strikeouts.
Henry Clay 11 Western Hills 3
Henry Clay scored 4 runs in the 5th to break open a tie game. Sam Jiunta went 3-for-5 with a double and 3 RBI, Brandon Lord went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Wyatt Terrell added 2 hits including a double in the victory. Alec Bush pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball to pick up the win.
Logan Co 4 Russellville 0
Joe Holliday went 2-for-2 with a double and RBI, and Daniel Beaty went 2-for-3 with a double for Logan County. Caleb Bruner fired 6 innings of 1-hit baseball with 13 K’s in the winning effort.
Whitley Co 8 Model 2
Jordan Crusenberry and Ryan Short each collected 2 hits, and Steven Watson allowed 1 earned run over 4 innings to pick up the win.
DuPont Manual 6 Kentucky Country Day 2
Ben Cooper went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, and Chris Gambert added 2 hits and drove in a run for Manual. Ben Flanigan allowed 3 hits and struck out 10 in going the distance for the win.
Dixie Heights 8 Newport Central Catholic 2
Seth Caple doubled home 2 runs, and Nick Niehaus added 2 RBI in the season-opener for Dixie Heights. Nick King tossed 3 hitless innings with 6 K’s to pick up the win.
