It was bound to happen at some point this year, but Jesuit—the third-ranked team in Florida and one of the few remaining undefeated squads in the state—lost to Countryside HS 7-6 in extra innings. The Cougars used a flexible array of arms, leaving in a pitcher for only one or two innings, and timely hitting to take down the Tigers. As for Jesuit, walks, fly outs, and a couple of key plays that did not go their way was what ultimately led to their detriment.
Countryside controlled virtually the entire game as they made all of the routine plays, hit line drives and groundballs, and threw strikes. The only point in the contest where Jesuit owned essentially all of the momentum was when they scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extras. As for their offense, the Cougars were led by 2017 1B/LHP Nick Mudrey who went 2-4 with 3 RBIs, including the game-winning hit, and 2018 INF AJ Jackson went 3-3 with an RBI.
