Class of 2023 Inside the Rankings: Top Dogs

Each week leading up to the new year, we will be rolling out “Inside the Rankings” articles to further highlight the movement around the ‘23 class in NY and PA. This week’s focus shifts the scope to “Top Dogs,” the highest ranked uncommitted player in each state.
2023 SS/RHP THOMAS SKROBE (FORDHAM PREP)
The Spin: Highly-efficient in a proportional, twitchy 5-foot-9, 175lb build, the multi-faceted Skrobe has quickly wiggled his way into the forefront of New York’s ‘23 class. The primary shortstop is an explosive mover with low posture and good change of direction through the baseball, up to an 88 mph arm strength across the diamond, which transfers over to clean FB velocity (T86 mph) reaching 2500rpms at its peak. The right-handed hitter possesses leadoff intangibles with high-level bat to ball skills (80% on-plane efficiency via Blast Motion) and can drive it gap-to-gap with developing strength. More impressively, Skrobe has a legitimate chance to stick on the mound with an elite spin profile on each of the three offerings. Though the aforementioned FB sits mostly in the mid-80’s at the moment, the CB and SL play with just 10 mph of separation and feature plus movement (-14 inches IVB, -14 inches HM on average respectively).
The Performance: 7/30/21, PBR Future Games (Team NY) | Looked sharp in his inning of work, running the FB up to 86 mph while accruing three strikeouts, two of which were on low-to-mid 70’s curveballs in the dirt.
