Making a Move in 2020

2020 definitely had its share of disappointment with the high school baseball season being shut down after only a hand full of games, though there was still plenty to get excited about before it happened. Movement among the Top 10 player rankings was limited, but many players were beginning to make a name for themselves. We will take a look at some of those young men below….

2021

Cade Mattison

Just over a year ago Mattison was fairly unknown. Within the year the 6’4” and very lean RHP from Lamar Christian (Purvis) has added some clean velocity (up to 90 mph) while improving on his secondary stuff. With multiple offers he settled on Jones College and looks to be an arm with a very high ceiling.

Garrett Barger

Barger became an instant attraction at our North vs. South game at Trustmark Park. The big lefty from Petal, has overcome some past injuries and displayed a fastball up to 89 mph with a tight slider with late swing and miss sweeping action. With zero offers coming into the game, within a couple of days Barger had plenty to choose from before deciding on Mississippi Gulf Coast CC.

2022

Cameron Fennell

Fennell is a very large and raw athlete. With a frame that, in time, could be very dangerous. The 6” 5” first basemen from Long Beach already has a solid approach at the plate and lots of power potential.

Austin Tommasini

Tommasini is a pitcher! With 3 quality pitches and feel for each he’s fun to watch. The Madison Central righty was up to 89 mph this summer at the Future Games while showing secondary stuff that will definitely play at the next level.

2023

Cal Culpepper

A legitimate two way prospect, the Clarkdale infielder showed some very good range and advanced ability on defense while handling the bat well. On the mound, Culpepper touched 88 mph at our July event, while displaying lots of depth on his breaking ball, enough to warrant a spot on our Future Games roster in Atlanta.

Patrick Spencer

Washington will probably rely heavily on Spencer’s arm for the next 3 years. With a good projectable frame this sophomore could continue to develop into one of Mississippi’s top pitching recruits. Armed with a fastball that has been up to 87 mph and some very nice depth on his breaking ball, we look forward to watching his progression.

Drake Douglas

Long and wiry is the best way to describe Douglas. The 6’2” 150 pound RHP from Saltillo has plenty of room to add mass which should allow for more power and velocity. On the mound Douglas is consistently in the low 80’s with tight spin and understands pitching. He can also help at the plate with a balanced gap to gap approach.

2024

Stone McCaughey

McCaughey showed out at our Jr. Future Games Showcase in March. Up to 83 mph with a very mature slider that definitely turned some heads. The athletic freshman also looked solid at SS and is part of a intriguing group of young prospects at Lewisburg.

Wes White

With a very projectable body, the Northwest Rankin freshman was up to 79 mph with his fastball at Trustmark Park this summer, but that number should continue to rise. White’s delivery was very smooth and controlled with great sync with the upper and lower half.
