Prep Baseball Report

A Look at a Preseason Contender

Matt Miller
State Director

As we get closer to the 2021 high school baseball season we will highlight a few teams that could make a huge splash this year.

I had a chance to visit Jackson Prep recently and chat with Coach Brent Heavener about his outlook on the coming spring.

The Patriots were 14-4 during last years abbreviated season and return most of what made them so successful.

With a lineup that features lots of leadership from seniors Jeffrey Ince (Mississippi State commit), Thaxton Berch (Louisiana Tech), Riley Maddox (Ole Miss), and Mason Nichols (Ole Miss) the meat of the lineup looks to be a difficult one to work through.

Others that should make an impact include juniors Eli Berch (Future Games participant), Cy Craig (Future Games participant), Trey Bridges, Owen Abney, along with sophomore Rives Reynolds (Mississippi State).

Scoring shouldn't be a problem for the Patriots, but just in case runs are hard to come by from time to time they also have a solid group of arms that can keep opponents in check.

Riley Maddox, Mason Nichols, and Will Gibbs (Mississippi State) look to contribute heavily on the mound while carrying the bulk of the innings, with Cy Craig and Thaxton Berch available out of the bullpen….

Look forward to watching this group in action starting February 9th.
