A Look Back at the '19 Class: OF Christian Hall

Austin Sharp
Director of Scouting

The 2019 season was a good one for the state of Alabama, as it produced some impressive talent from top to bottom. This class featured some MLB Draft selections and players that opted to go to school and had productive freshman seasons before they were cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, we want to go back and take a look at OF Christian Hall (Calera HS).

Scouting Report

University of Tennessee Martin signee. Physical 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame with present strength in build. At the plate, Hall made the  most of pitches he could hit making loud contact. With a mature, and relaxed approach, Hall didn’t fall victim to wanting to expand the zone in order to get the bat moving, and showed impressive pitch-selection. The left-handed hitter worked with a simple rhythm with good hand load back before they got going quickly through the zone. Made strong contact to the middle of the field turning over an 88 mph fastball to straight away center field.

2018 (Junior Season):

As a junior at Calera HS, Hall hit .377 with 25 RBI’s and 15 extra-base hits in 2018. He was consistently ranked as one of the top ranked outfielders in Alabama according to our 2019 Alabama Player Rankings. After becoming one of the top players in his class, Hall committed to the University of Tennessee-Martin in the summer of 2018.

2019 (Senior Season):

Hall had a productive senior season for Calera HS. Hall attended the Mid Mississippi Class hosted by PBR Mississippi and put together an impressive showing. One of these AB’s included turning around an 88 mph fastball to dead CF.

In the high school season, Hall continued to put his power on display. Below is a video of Hall blasting a homerun to RF. Hall’s senior season was cut short due to a shoulder injury.

2020 (Freshman Season at UTM):

Hall exploded onto the scene in Martin, TN as he emerged as the best statistical hitter as a freshman for the Skyhawks in 2020.

Hall HR vs. Alabama

Hall was very consistent throughout the 2020 season before it was cut short. After 16 games, Hall hit .368 with 13 R’s, 2 2B’s, 2 HR’s, 9 RBI’s and 12 BB’s. Hall was named as D1 Baseball’s Ohio Valley Conference “Best Freshman”. You can find the full D1 Baseball article below.

Although it was a small sample size, it is easy to see that Hall had no trouble with the transition from Alabama High School Baseball to Division 1 Baseball. Expect Hall to make an even bigger jump at Tennessee-Martin in 2021.
