Most of them got their feet wet this past Spring and several have raised their stock throughout the summer circuit. The second edition of the 2025 Rankings doubles to 100 prospects from the Volunteer State, including six D1 commits. Per usual, the freshman class features many two-way players after showcasing skills on both sides of the ball, as their tools will sharpen and become more position specific over the next few years. Cole Pippenger (Coffee County; Mississippi St Commit) leads the pack as the number one overall prospect after showing athleticism, versatility, and big time projection. It is still very, very early and the class has plenty of time to develop and expand, but this first look provides recruiters an early glimpse of high end prospects.
Most of the top 25 consistent of high caliber arms w/ 12 RHPs and 1 LHP, who have been mid to upper 80s up to this point. Currently, there are 19 young arms who have already topped 85+ mph, lead by RHP Aidan Niggl (Mt. Juliet; Uncommitted) who topped 88 at Lakepoint this summer. There are 35 young bats who have already hit 90+ exit velo, led by 1B Michael Ray (MUS) after hitting a ball 100.2 mph at Jackson Open in June. As always, the evaluation process is a fluid and ongoing with multiple viewings in order to get the best feel for players abilities. It’s important to note that as players continue their development some show marked improvement at a much more rapid pace. That doesn’t indicate that other players got worse or went backwards, it’s just how player development works. As the years unfold, players make improvements and new prospects pop up on the radar expanding the PBR rankings universe. In addition to the evaluations of players, our scouts, both those in Tennessee and nationally, have also had multiple discussions with each other to review our individual lists and then make adjustments based on what we've each seen.
