2022 Pac-12 Recruiting Classes
December 16, 2021
Prep Baseball Report is conducting its annual review of recruiting classes, in which Nathan Rode and Shooter Hunt evaluate the current senior talent committed to programs in each of the Power Five conferences, as well as notable mid-majors—or as we like to call them, Power Majors—and the draft risk each of those classes carry. Numbers in the charts below denote where players are ranked in the 2022 Overall Rankings.
ARIZONA
OVERVIEW: With Jay Johnson now at Louisiana State, which precipitated a major transfer and some flips in commitments, the Wildcats are in a bit of a transition. But don’t expect any lasting effects. Dave Lawn was retained by new head coach Chip Hale and promoted to associate head coach, while Tripp Couch, a highly accomplished recruiter, came over from South Carolina. Summerhill has power potential in his 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame, to which he adds the threat of speed with a 6.6 60. Crisantes is put together at 6 feet, 175 pounds and offers a complete offensive tool set. He has great plate discipline with plate control and hits for some power. His athleticism plays well at shortstop where he shows good range and solid instincts. Adams has a calm, smooth stroke from the right side and consistently finds the barrel, but his speed is the biggest tool, and has a chance to make a difference on both sides of the ball. LeJeune, who is coming off an injury and was previously committed to Louisiana State, is now headed to Tucson, where his physicality and left-handed pop should play nicely. Outside the national rankings, RHP Andrew Carroll (Chaparral HS, AZ) pitches with an up-tempo, drop-and-drive delivery, firing fastballs that creep into the low 90s with some arm-side run. His best pitch is a firm, above-average changeup at 81-85, and he can mix in a sharp breaking ball with some depth.
DRAFT RISK: Low. Arizona has the talent on its current roster to handle a smaller class, so the commitment flips and any potential draft losses shouldn’t hurt much. Summerhill’s power-speed combination is sure to intrigue, but this group has a good chance to arrive intact.
