Team Summary
Sulphur High School certainly showed that the future is bright, in a shortened 2020 season, where the Golden Tors had as many as 6 freshman on the field. The 2020 squad went home with an impressive 10-4 record with that many underclassmen on the field. Since Coach Sam Moore's arrival, Sulphur has enjoyed successful seasons led by quality starting pitching in Will Dion, Connor Cooke, Chance Stone, and Cameron LeJeune, just to name a few. This year's staff will be headlined with 2023 LHP Jake Brown who is a Louisiana State University commit. When we asked Coach Moore about his sophomore southpaw, he compared him to 2015 Sulphur LHP Kale Breaux, who is now on the Tors staff. Coach Moore told us, "Jake Brown is very similar to Kale Breaux. He's got four pitches that he can throw in any count for strikes. He's been up to 87-88 mph and he has an out pitch in his slider." Senior Kade McBride will also be a key piece of the Tors starting rotation and will play SS when not on the rubber. As we mentioned already, the underclassmen that gained valuable experience last year as freshman, will be a key part to Sulphur's success this year. 2023 Gage Trahan will play 2B and SS, and has garnered a lot of attention after the LHH had a successful summer campaign. Brown will play CF when he's not on the mound for the Tors and other underclassmen such as Cooper Devall, Luke Benoit, and Dillon Bird will also be counted on for the 2021 season. Coach Moore is very excited about his 2021 team and for good reason, as they have a great mix of upperclassmen combined with a talented sophomore group. Sulphur opens up the 2021 campaign playing rival Barbe High School and will be a part of what always is a tough District 3-5A that also includes Acadiana, Lafayette, and Sam Houston. We expect the Tors to "surprise" a lot of folks this year. This 2021 squad should continue to get better and better as their underclassmen continue to mesh, gel, and gain experience before a post-season run.
