PBR VA/DC updated and expanded its Class of 2018 Rankings in December, as the year turns we will take a closer look at those rankings. Today we spotlight pitchers in the Top 150 of the updated VA/DC rankings.

7.15.17

Garber has a lankier athletic frame. Hits from the right side, short line drive swing, good approach uses the whole field. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, with some arm strength and fields with above average hands. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, shorter quick arm action. Shoulders slightly closed and uphill, lands open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 82-84 with late run. Good slider with late sharp hard 10/4 break and good armspeed at 73-75.

Garber was impressive in TA's victory over Abingdon in the 3A Regional Semi-finals, shutting down a highly talented Abingdon lineup over the course of six innings. Garber throws from a high three quarter slot with a controlled delivery. Creates quick arm speed while pitching with regular effort. Fastball had slight run to the pitch, topping out at 84 and sitting 81-84 throughout the game. Breaking ball was bigger with 11/5 shape and depth to the pitch. Got around it at times when he tried to backdoor it to lefties. Had good command of the strikezone on the day.

5.24.17: Athletic frame, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with some effort. Short arm action, shoulders closed. Lands square with fall off finish. Fastball had armside run, sitting 81-83. Sharp 11/5 curveball was 70-72.

8.9.17:  Loving is 6-2 with an athletic frame, has a drop and drive delivery and throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot with a shorter, free quick arm action and normal effort. Good rhythm to delivery, shoulders are closed and uphill, lands on line with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 81-85 with downward plane and some late sink to it. Curveball was 64-66 with hard sharp 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 68-70 with late run and some armspeed. Good feel for all three pitches.

8.9.17:  Reid is 6-5 with a lankier athletic frame, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot. Drop and drive delivery, longer loose arm action that is quick, normal effort to delivery. Shoulders uphill and on line, lands slightly closed with a bit of a fall off finish. Fastball was 77-82, touching 84, with downward plane and a bit of late run to it. Showed a change-up in warmups with heavy fade to it. Curveball was 62 with big 11/5 break. Slider was 68 with harder late 11/5 break and some armspeed.

6.27.17:  Reid is 6-5 and has a lankier athletic frame, he throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. Short, loose arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are on line and slightly uphill, lands slightly open with some recoil to his finish. Fastball was 80-82, touching 83 with late run. Curveball had gradual 12/6 break and some armspeed, running 64-68. Change-up had late sink and some armspeed, sitting 69-70.

10.12.15 Rodriguez is a talented two-way player with a lanky, athletic frame that is very projectable. On the mound, he throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm action that generates velocity with normal effort. He has a drop and drive delivery and throws with a classic lefty crossfire. His fastball had late run and ran 76-77, touching 78. He threw a 1/7 power slider with good armspeed that ran 66-69. His command of both pitches was very good until he began to tire. At the plate, Rodriguez hits from an athletic stance and has a short stride. He maintains good balance throughout his swing and has an explosive lower half that generates a fast bat. He has a short path and extends through the ball. He has a line drive swing and works gap to gap with the potential to grow into a lot more power as he gets stronger.

5.22.16:  Sisk is 5-10 and has a lanky frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Short, quick arm action generates velocity with slightly more than normal effort. Shoulders slightly uphill and closed as he strides on line to a square landing with athletic finish. Fastball had plane and slight run to it, sitting 80-83 while touching 84. Curveball had mostly gradual 1/7 break, flashing sharper when thrown harder. Decent armspeed running 63-66. Sinking change-up with decent armspeed running 73-75. Sisk is a LHH who works out of a slightly open front toe in stance. He transfers weight onto his back side when he loads and has a pull approach. His bat path is level and long showing an exit velocity of 72. From the outfield, Sisk had a long and loose left handed arm action that showed good velocity at 84 and good carry and life. He plays through the ball nicely and has clean and smooth mechanics and transfer to throwing side.

2.18.17:  Steele is 6-0 and has an athletic frame with a strong lower half. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action and some effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed, strides on line to a slightly open landing, athletic finish. Fastball was 81-83 with late run. Good curveball with late sharp 12/6 break and good armspeed, running 72-75. Change-up had good armspeed with armside run, running 74-78, pitch was very good at the bottom end of the range.


 

 


Scouting Report

9.29.16 - Showed nice balanced at the plate with strong hands. Whipped barrel through zone during batting practice. Aggressive swings with pull side power potential at plate. Life on throws and sound actions from both infield and outfield. Athletic...On the mound, he has a slight stab after hand separation then goes into an athletic arm action with fast arm speed. Nice pace throughout delivery. Great lower half involvement and backside drive. Sat 86-89 on the day in his inning of work. Fastball showed later life at times. Breaking ball was 72-75 with 11/5 shape and later break and nice depth and tight rotation.

4.26.16:  Steinberg has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a tall and fall delivery. He has a short, lightning quick arm action and generates velocity with high effort. His shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides to a closed landing. His fastball had late run, sitting 81-85 and touching 87. He was working at the lower end of that range in the sixth inning, but could still get an 85 when he wanted it. His changeup had heavy run and was thrown with good arm speed, running 76-78. He threw a sharp 12/6 curveball that he slowed his arm down on at times, running 60-67.

Steinberg has a filled out 6-2 frame that is athletic. He was up as high as 89 during the fall of 2015.
