2018 PBR All-State Selection: First Team

The 2018 high school regular season ended a few weeks ago, and the high school state championships get underway today. With the end of the season quickly approaching, today we release the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi First Team All-State selections, with second and possible third team selection being release in the days to come.

The PBR All-State teams consist of one catcher, one first baseman, three infielders, three outfielders, three pitchers and a utility player. As well, the selections include the entire state of Mississippi, regardless of classification of the high school.

Here is the 2018 Prep Baseball Report Mississippi All-State First Team:

Blake Johnson C / RHP / Gulfport, MS / 2018

Tulane signee batted .463 and drove in 38 runs with 12 doubles and nine home runs. On the mound, Johnson recorded 44.1 innings with 67 strikeouts.

 

 

First Baseman

Fisher Norris 3B / Seminary, MS / 2018

Southern Mississippi signee hit for an average of .429 and drove in 48 runs while posting 20 extra base hits that included six home runs.


Infield

Brandon Smith RHP / Richland, MS / 2018

The Mississippi State signee batted .523 and drove in 28 runs with 18 doubles, four triples and five home runs. On the mound finished with an ERA of 0.50 totaling 78 strikeouts and just eight walks in 55.2 innings pitched.

Drew Bianco SS / 3B / Oxford, MS / 2018

The Louisiana State signee batted .409 and drove in 24 runs with seven doubles and six home runs.

Landon Jordan SS / 2B / Hancock, MS / 2018

The Mississippi State signee batted .579 with six doubles, two triples and four home runs.

 

Outfield

Joe Gray OF / Hattiesburg, MS / 2018

The Mississippi signee batted .485 while driving in 34 runs. Gray recorded 36 extra base hits in 99 at-bats while only striking out 13 times, posting a 1.526 OPS. On the mound Gray threw 28.2 innings going 5-0.

Bryce Brock OF / Lewisburg, MS / 2018

Mississippi State recruit hit for an average of .443 and drove in 41 runs with 24 extra base hits including eight home runs. On the mound the lefty logged eleven wins and zero losses while striking out 111 and walking only eleven with a 0.79 ERA.

Bailee Hendon LHP / OF / Vancleave, MS / 2018

Jones County Junior College signee batted .519 and drove in 35 runs with 13 doubles, one triple and five home runs. On the mound the lefty has gone 11-0 with four complete games, two shutouts and three no hitters, logging a total of 63 innings. Hendon has a 0.67 ERA, 98 strikeouts and has only allowed 27 hits in 237 batters faced.

 

Pitchers

JT Ginn RHP / SS / Brandon, MS / 2018

The Mississippi State signee pitched 39.1 innings with an ERA of 0.36. Allowed only ten hits in 149 batters faced while recording 78 strikeouts and just nine walks. At the plate the right-handed hitter batted .419 and drove in 27 runs with six doubles, two triples and nine home runs.

Regi Grace RHP / Madison Central, MS / 2018

The Mississippi State signee pitched 64 innings and finished with a record of 7-2. Posting an ERA of 1.31. Grace was able to log 98 strikeouts and just ten walks limiting his opponents to only 20 runs in 255 batters faced.  At the plate Grace finished with 17 extra base hits and a .360 batting average.

Logan Tanner C / RHP / George County, MS / 2019

The Mississippi State signee pitched 62.1 innings and finished with a record of 7-2 throwing four complete games and one shutout. Posted an ERA of 1.57 logging 102 strikeouts and just 15 walks in 257 batters faced. Defensively Tanner was able to throw out nine of thirteen stolen base attempts.

 

Utility

Dexter Jordan OF / 3B / Hattiesburg , MS / 2018

The Louisiana-Lafayette signee hit .390 and drove in 45 runs with seven doubles, five triples and two homeruns. On the mound Jordan finished 5-2 with a 1.47 ERA, 58 strikeouts and 21 walks.
