This week’s article will feature a few players from last week’s top prospect games. These three young men exhibited both visual and measurable tools that will translate well to the next level. Being physically gifted with tools that show well in games, these players should not have a problem finding a school to play for.
Paul Benitez 2016, SS/2B Lake Nona HS
Benitez stands at 6 feet 185 pounds with an athletic, strong, and projectable body. He ran the fastest time at our Top Prospect Games (6.76) and shows quick actions all over the field. He also shows good range, soft hands, and a strong arm from shortstop (85 mph across the diamond). Paul also swings the bat well with quick hands and the ability to hit to all fields.
Vinnie Costello 2016, OF/1B Pompano Beach HS
Costello is tall, lean, athletic, and projectable at 6-foot-5 180 pounds. He ran a 6.91 at our showcase and threw 83 mph from the outfield. Vinnie also has very good bat speed and the ball jumps off his bat. His exit velocity hitting off the tee was 88 mph.
Dylan Owens 2016, C/3B Cocoa HS
Owens a physical and strong player at 6-foot-2 195 pounds. From behind the plate he fires a 1.90 down to second with a quick transfer and plenty arm strength. At the plate he is relaxed and has a nice, easy swing. He has some loft in his swing and the ball really jumps off his bat. Dylan’s exit velocity hitting off the tee was 91 mph.
