March 1, 2014
As we prepare for our 2014 high school preseason coverage, we are going to take a quick glance at teams from across the state.

Class: DIII

Head Coach: Gene Bumgardner
2013 Overall Record: 21-7
2013 Conference Record: 13-1

TOP PLAYERS
Shawn Collier, 2B, 2014 ... Three-year varsity starter. Hitting production fell off from 2012 to 2013, though Collier did have less at bats in 2013.
Isaac Dixon, CF, 2014 ... Three-year starter on varsity. Hit .324 as a junior with 10 RBI. Also plays basketball.
Ethan Fremder, C, 2015 ... Started on varsity as a freshman and sophomore. Hit .306 in 2013. Good defensive catcher as well.
Zach Jordan, IF/RHP, 2015 ... Could be one of Piketon's top pitchers in 2014.
Riley Harris, IF/RHP, 2016 ... Also plays on the basketball team. Good athlete who can play all over the diamond.
Nick Williams, OF/LHP, 2015 ... Appeared on varsity as a freshman in the field. Only appeared as a pitcher his sophomore season.
YOUNG UP AND COMERS
Ethan Fremder, C, 2015
Riley Harris, RHP/SS, 2016
Jacob Chester, LHP/1B, 2016
OUTLOOK:
Piketon had a great 2013 finishing 13-1 in conference and won it for the first time in 51 years. It may be tough to repeat that type of production as they lost 11 seniors including 5 who started for four years. Though they are rebuilding, they are doing so with young talent. With a good mix of returning starters who are seniors and underclassmen Piketon should still have a good 2014.
