Blast Motion Leaderboard: Louisiana Senior Games

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Hammond, LA - On Sunday, September 8, 2024, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to Southeastern Louisiana University, to host our second event of the fall with our Louisiana Senior Games, which featured over 80 uncommitted prospects from the state's 2025 class and there were over a dozen college recruiters in attendance.  Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, defensive evaluations, batting practice using Trackman Baseball and Blast Motion, and each pitcher was able to throw live against hitters with Trackman Baseball running to capture all of their data and metrics.  Today, with the help of one of our partners, Blast Motion Baseball, we take a look at the top Blast Motion hitting metrics from Sunday's event.

HAND SPEED (PEAK & AVERAGE)

Peak Hand Speed: The observed maximum speed as measured on the handle of the bat (measured six inches from the knob of the bat). Peak Hand Speed will occur prior to the moment of impact, very close to the commit time in the swing when the wrists unhinge.

BAT SPEED (MAX & AVERAGE)

Bat Speed: The observed speed of the sweet spot of the bat at impact. The sweet spot of the bat is measured six inches from the tip of the bat.

ROTATIONAL ACCELERATION (PEAK & AVERAGE)

Body Rotation: A swing that has the appropriate relative contributions of body and bat rotations is an efficient and Powerful swing that maintains proper sequencing. An efficient baseball swing is one in which the body creates the initial movements, which is then transferred to the arms and out to the bat, thereby maximizing Bat Speed through this proximal-to-distal kinematic sequencing movement pattern.
