2024 Louisiana State Games: Event Preview

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Lafayette, LA - On Saturday and Sunday, September 28, 2024 - September 29, 2024, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff will travel to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette for our annual Louisiana State Games.  This invite-only event has become our marquee event each calendar year, and this year's roster is full of talent across the 2025-2028 classes.

EVENT HISTORY

Last year's State Games event was held at Louisiana State University, home of the 2023 NCAA D-I National Champion LSU Tigers, and helped us identify prospects that had make significant jumps in their development, as well as new prospects, ahead of the 2024 high school baseball season.  Prospects such as 2026 RHP Hayes Holton (Loranger HS) and 2026 RHP Logan Sorrel (Parkview Baptist HS) had outstanding performances on the mound, which earned them an eventual invite to our coveted Future Games event this past summer.  Seasoned veterans such as 2025 OF Noah Lewis (Catholic BR HS), 2025 MIF Josh Lim (Dunham HS), and 2025 C Connor Walker (Sam Houston HS) showed well at last year's State Games on the offensive side of things, and all three are former Future Games participants.

+ 2025 MIF Josh Lim (Dunham HS)

+ 2025 C Connor Walker (Sam Houston HS)

LOOKING AHEAD TO THIS WEEKEND (COMMITTED PROSPECTS)

There's a total of 11 committed prospects who will be in attendance at this weekend's Louisiana State Games.  Let's take a look at a few that we are excited to see below.

+ 2025 LHP Bryce Wilson (Chalmette HS)

The former Future Gamer has been the Owls #1 starter since his sophomore season, as he looks to cap off a fantastic high school career.  Wilson is a strike-throwing southpaw with a legit four-pitch mix and can land any of his offerings in any counts for strikes.  He's run the FB up to 88-89 mph in the past and can locate his heater to all quadrants of the zone.

+ 2025 RHP Braden Mouton (Central Catholic HS)

Mouton was one of the bigger surprises at our Top Prospect Games event this past summer.  The Jones College recruit punched out the side at the event working primarily off of a 88-90 mph FB that had life through the zone, which paired well with a mid-70's sweeping SL.  Reports from the summer are that Mouton has now touched the low-90's with his heater, and we're excited to see the progressions that he's made since June.

The Louisiana Tech recruit had one of the better outings at last year's State Games, as he racked up 5 K's across his 2 innings pitched.  Harville uses a short & quick arm action to release the ball from a near over-the-top slot.  He can cut and sink his 85-88 mph FB and can land a low-70's CB for strikes, as well as bury a 78-82 mph SL with two strikes, on top of a 78-80 mph CH with arm-side fade.

UNCOMMITTED 2025 PROSPECTS TO WATCH

+ 2025 MIF Ryder Plancahrd (Holy Cross HS)

The former Senior Future Gamer showed well at the Lakepoint Sports Complex this summer and is one of the top uncommitted infielders in the state's '25 class.  A good overall athlete, we've had Planchard as low as a 6.82 in the 60, and he's got smooth actions with soft hands on the infield.  He also popped a personal-best 97 mph max exit velocity at our Senior Games event a couple of weeks ago.

+ 2025 OF Chase Harris (Catholic BR HS)

Another former Senior Future Gamer who has continued to show well with each look that we've had at him.  Harris is one of the better runners in the state, as he turned in a 6.49 laser-timed 60 at the Lakepoint Sports Complex this past summer.  A left-handed hitter, Harris uses his speed to his advantage with a line drive/hard ground ball approach through the middle of the field.

+ 2025 RHP Troy Green (Slidell HS)

The 6'1" 165 lbs. right-handed hurler was one of the bigger winners from our Senior Games event a couple of weeks ago.  Green is an athletic mover down the mound with a FB that sits 84-87 mph.  He also has good feel for spin with a low-mid 70's SL and can land a late-fading mid-70's CH to left-handed hitters for strikes.

UNCOMMITTED 2026 PROSPECTS TO WATCH

+ 2026 RHP Grant Sunstrom (University Lab HS)

There's a ton of projection left for the 6'4" 180 lbs. junior, which is why we're excited to see him this weekend.  Sunstrom was a member of our Future Games team this summer and made the most out of his opportunity by logging two no-hit innings pitched at the event.  The University Lab product sits 82-85 mph with his FB and hides the ball well before releasing the ball from a lower release height.  His low-70's SL tunnels well off of his heater and makes for an uncomfortable at-bat, especially to right-handed hitters.

+ 2026 RHP/INF Cole Guidroz (Central BR HS)

Guidroz was another member of our Future Games team this past summer and provides intrigue as a potential two-way prospect.  He's a solid defender and takes quality at-bats in the box with a mostly line drive approach, and rarely strikes out.  On the mound, he's a strike-thrower with a three-pitch mix that includes a FB up to 89 mph and a swing & miss mid-70's sweeping SL.

+ 2026 INF Lane Mixon (University Lab HS)

The University Lab product was one of the better performers that we saw this summer at our Prep Baseball Louisiana Summer Championships tournament for the Knights Knation 16U National group.  Mixon uses a strong lower-half to turn a heavy barrel to contact that produces consistent hard contact from gap-to-gap.  He's also a steady defender on the infield with an accurate arm across the diamond.

One of the bigger surprises from our Summer ID Events, the 6'2" 180 lbs. right-hander firmly placed himself on the map of uncommitted prospects to follow in the state.  At our New Orleans Summer ID in July, Richardson used a long and loose arm action to release the ball from a high 3/4 slot.  His FB sat 86-88 mph and he showed feel for a quality 76-78 mph CH and a developing low-70's SL.  Reports are that the Belle Chasse product has been up to 90-91 mph already this fall, which is another reason why we're excited to see him this weekend.

UNCOMMITTED 2027 PROSPECTS TO FOLLOW

+ 2027 C/RHP Cooper Austin (Central BR HS)

Austin earned the full-time starting catching position last spring for the Wildcats and did a phenomenal job at handling a veteran staff as just a freshman.  He'll likely be relied upon even more this spring, both behind the plate and on the mound, as he owns a low-mid 80's FB, and has real for spin.

+ 2027 C Nathan Cervantes (Northwood HS)

The former Future Gamer offers up some of the best raw power from the left side of the plate in the state's '27 class.  Cervantes routinely produces 90+ mph exit velocities and is also a solid defender behind the plate.

+ 2027 OF Cooper Hawkins (St. Thomas More HS)

6'1" 190 lbs. physical frame with a strong lower-half.  The St. Thomas More product performed at a high-level all summer for Team Louisiana and should factor into the Cougars lineup this coming spring.  Hawkins can really drive the ball from gap-to-gap and is a quality overall athlete with a good arm from the outfield as well.
