On the Hunt 10.21.17
Lawson first caught my eye at the Underclass Area Code Games in August, and looks to have matured even more since that time. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Tennessee recruit looks to have added some muscle in the past couple of months, and appears even more comfortable in the box where he had multiple, quality at-bats on the evening. Also a talented pitcher, Lawson looked the part at shortstop on this night where he made some nice plays moving effortlessly side to side.
5.1.17: Lawson has an athletic frame, he has quick feet and later good range at short, able to get up the middle and cover the hole easily. Very smooth, clean actions, plays through the ball well with good hands. Throws from a side arm slot with a short, loose arm action and some arm strength when he needs it. Shows good awareness in the field. Open athletic stance, short stride on line and smooth load back, good rhythm. Short to ball and extends through it with some batspeed. Showed good adjustment to approach in his third at-bat, cutting down swing with two strikes to put ball in play for a sacrifice fly, driving in an insurance run.
10.16 - Projectable athletic frame at 6-1 170-pounds. Hits from an athletic open set up with square hips. Long, low leg lift to stride in load. Slight drift at times. Level swing path with more of a pull type swing though does stay inside ball well at time. Quick hands. Solid actions in the field. Clean hands exchange and short arm action. throws have some life across the diamond...Nice tempo in a compact delivery. Short quick arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm angle. Nice lower half through finish and quick arm action. Athletic finish. 11/5 breaking ball with gradual break proper shape to get better. FB up to 85 mph
1.18.16: Lawson has a lanky 6-1 frame and a decent arm action. His fastball sat 78-80 and showed some feel for his change-up.
