6'3, 215-pound, LHH hits from a wide and athletic stance, uses a leg kick and a decent size stride to get his lower body in position to hit, hands have a big load and a barrel tip to gain some momentum going into the swing. Lower half fires hard but doesn’t always get through, bat path was good at times but became steep when he tried to do too much. Showed some really good pop in BP and some power potential. Defensively, shows soft hands and very good footwork around the bag, savvy 1B that knows how to play the game, accurate arm gets the ball where it needs to go through a ¾ arm angle.
6/14/16 - Max FB: 76, FB: 71-74, 67-68 Slider
6'3, 215-pound, LHP uses a smooth and very controlled motion to deliver pitches at low effort from a high ¾ arm slot, loose arm action doesn’t result in a lot of arm speed but definitely leaves room for some gains, strides a little closed off but is still able to clear his hips to the plate. Fastball stayed mostly straight but did show some sink at the end and was located well on the outside corner, breaking ball showed some powerful 2/8 slider action and was used to strike out 2 hitters in game play. Young is certainly a 2-way player to watch, as he is very close to breaking out.
6/10/15 - The 6 foot 2, 215-pound prospect posted a 7.13 60 time and a 4.69 home to first time. Defensively Young had a position velocity across the infield of 76 mph with average arm strength. Had soft hands and fluid footwork around the first base bag with good athletic ability for his size. Offensively Young shows some bat speed with an 83 mph exit velocity off the tee from the left side. Hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and explodes from his lower half. Young is a very disciplined hitter with a good approach that is a line drive type hitter with power potential. Young had two hits in game play for the black team.
