10/25/15 - The 6-foot, 160-pound prospect shows projectability with some room to grow into his frame, throws from a ¾ arm slot with long arm action, normal effort in delivery, fastball shows good arm-side life and sat at 79-80 mph touching 82 on one occasion, works the inner part of the plate well with the fastball, curveball shows 11/5 action and sat 67-68 mph, has good feel for the curveball. He also flashed a change that had very good sink and fade through the zone. Kerns gave up three hits in two innings pitched and had one strikeout during game play. He jumped into the 2018 rankings with his performance and is a 2018 pitcher to keep a close eye on.
As a position player, posted a 7.57 60 time and had a 77 mph position velocity across the infield.  Defensively Kerns shows long arm action, accuracy on throws, above average arm strength, average hands with decent footwork around the bag. Offensively Kerns shows average bat speed from the right side and had an 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. Kerns hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick involved, uses his lower half, has average overall balance, has a short path and needs more extension, and is a line drive type hitter. Kerns went 0 for 4 during game play. He should see improvements in his offensive game as he fills out his frame and gets physically stronger.
